SENATE PASSES BILL THAT WOULD PROHIBIT UNAUTHORIZED USE OF MILITARY IMAGES

Senator John A. DeFrancisco (R-I-C, Syracuse) announced that his legislation, which would make it a crime to use the name, image, or likeness of any current or former member of the armed forces or state militia for commercial purposes without permission (S3036), passed the New York state Senate today.

“There have been numerous incidents where the names of soldiers killed in the Iraq and Afghanistan wars have been used without concern for the soldier or the soldier’s family,” said Senator DeFrancisco. “Our military members, veterans and their families have made tremendous sacrifices for our country, and it is essential that we respect their privacy.”

SENATE PASSES 2013-14 BUDGET RESOLUTION

The New York State Senate has approved a 2013-14 budget resolution, proposed by the Senate Majority Coalition, that focuses on helping businesses create new jobs, investing additional funds in education and transportation, providing mandate relief to local governments, and restoring proposed cuts to women’s health programs as well programs for the developmentally disabled. The budget also includes a proposal for a permanent two-percent state spending cap.

DeFrancisco presented Baldwinsville high school football player Tyler Rouse with a Senate Resolution in Albany on March 7, 2013.  Rouse was named Gatorade's 2012-2013 New York Player of the Year.  Rouse is a student at C.W. The New York State Senate Republican Conference has introduced the “Grown in New York Plan” to strengthen family farms by expanding markets, removing obstacles, and investing in the future of farming.

The proposal would expand markets for our family farms by promoting Farmers Markets, Food Hubs and “Buy from your Backyard” programs to increase the amount of locally grown produce that is enjoyed by communities throughout the state, nation and world.

In addition to being one of the most productive agriculture industries in the country, our farmers unfortunately are among the most regulated. New York farmers can be subject to more than 20 different federal, state and local regulatory agencies.

SENATE REPUBLICANS UNVEIL FAMILY TAX RELIEF ACT

The Family Tax Relief Act Would Increase Tax Credits to Help Struggling Middle Class Families, Restore STAR Property Tax Rebate Checks for Millions of New Yorkers

Senate Republican Leader Dean Skelos and members of the Senate Republican Conference today unveiled the Family Tax Relief Act, a package of tax relief and reform measures designed to provide a major economic boost to New York’s struggling middle class families.

The Senate Republican plan would increase tax breaks that have not kept pace with inflation, and, in some instances, haven’t been adjusted for more than 25 years. The plan also restores the STAR property tax rebate check program to provide real and direct relief to millions of New Yorkers who pay some of the highest property taxes in the country.

GUN OWNERS CAN PROTECT THEIR PRIVACY THROUGH A PUBLIC RECORDS EXEMPTION FORM

The NY SAFE Act allows pistol license holders to protect the privacy of their personal information, including their home address, by providing them with a Public Records Exemption form. Those wishing to apply for the exemption should do so by May 15, 2013. In order to access this special form, please click on the provided link.
