Bonacic, District Attorney Don Williams, and Ulster County Probation Department Director Bob Sudlow today announced that $250,000 in State funding will be made available to the County Probation Department to implement a GPS tracking program for sex offenders who are sentenced to terms of jail plus probation or just straight probation.Senator Bonacic has secured the passage of legislation (S.4656-B) in the Senate on two occasions which would mandate GPS tracking for all Level 3 sex offenders.

On Wednesday, June 28, Senator Bonacic visited damaged parts of our Senate District including local emergency operations centers. He spoke by phone with emergency officials and law enforcement officials from Delaware, Ulster, Orange, and Sullivan Counties. Also during the morning, Bonacic spoke with officials from SEMO - the State Emergency Management Office and the office of Governor George Pataki. He asked that the Governor declare a State of Emergency for all four counties of our Senate District - Delaware, Ulster, Orange, and Sullivan.
Governor Pataki has now issued a formal emergency declaration including all the counties of our Senate District - Delaware, Orange, Sullivan, and Ulster. Senator Bonacic has toured extensive parts of our Senate District today and talked throughout the day with SEMO and local officials. State Senator John Bonacic (R/I/C - Mt. Hope), has asked Governor Pataki to have emergency officials review flooding across the Catskills and Hudson Valley caused in the past few days. "It is clear that this flooding merits a disaster declaration. Roads have been washed out and families evacuated. I have asked the Governor to send SEMO into our counties and start providing help," Bonacic said."I have received calls from constituents who have been flooded during the past few days. They attribute that flooding in large part to poor reservoir management.
Represenatives of Governor George Pataki have informed Senator Bonacic that an emergency declaration has been made for Sullivan, Ulster, and Orange Counties. An emergency declaration had previously been made this morning for Delaware County and other counties in New York.
The Senate passed legislation (S.8470) today appropriating $225 million to the State’s Environmental Protection Fund (EPF). The legislation includes $8.75 million for municipal recycling. Senator Bonacic wrote the 2000 law which authorized the cost of municipal recycling planning and promotion to be included in the Environmental Protect Fund. "Recycling at the municipal level ensures our air is cleaner, are landfills are less congested, and we are reusing resources whenever possible.
The New York State Senate today passed legislation (S.8349a) sponsored by State Senator John Bonacic (R/I/C - Mt. Hope), which strips NYRI’s ability to use eminent domain under State Law."NYRI has promised their actions will raise our energy rates. It is absurd that our State policy would be to allow NYRI to raise our rates, scar our environment, and take our property. The Senate has now rejected that possibility. New Yorkers are already paying too much for energy.
