Despite the fact that the Republican led Senate has voted three years in a row on property tax reform, the Democrat dominated Assembly has refused to vote even once to reform New York’s broken school property tax system.

The State would make up the extra cost using existing tax revenue.

The bill, S.3195-C, amends the law banning cell phone use while driving by prohibiting drivers from writing, sending, or reading text messages on a cell phone or any other mobile device.

"If the State, federal, and local governments all temporarily suspended its taxes, New Yorkers would save 65 cents per gallon at the pump," stated Senator Bonacic. "Any amount of savings is important, especially during difficult economic times."

The Ulster County Sheriff’s Department will also receive funding to purchase AEDs for several municipal departments.
"AEDs, combined with CPR, have proven to save more lives than using CPR alone," stated Senator Bonacic. "Our law enforcement offices and public buildings should all be equipped with them."

State Senator John J. Bonacic (R/I/C - Mount Hope) announced today that members of the Senate Environmental Conservation Committee approved his two pieces of legislation related to the watershed. One measure requires releases from reservoirs to avoid flooding and the other requires the Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) to review and analyze the structural integrity of high hazard dams.
State Senator John J. Bonacic (R/I/C - Mount Hope) called for the New York State Legislature to fully fund the school funding commitments made last year by adding $350 million in basic classroom operating aid, also called foundation aid to the proposed State budget.
Senator Bonacic said, "Foundation aid is the basic category of classroom operating aid that pays the State’s share of the costs of teachers, principals, books, educational programs, and enrichment activities such as tutoring and after school programs."

Bonacic (R/I/C - Mount Hope) supported a measure passed by the Senate which enacts a constitutional spending cap that would prevent the Executive from submitting a State budget that increases spending by more than four percent over the previous year's budget and require both houses of the Legislature to live within reasonable means.
"The taxpayers of New York State are already overburdened. Hardworking New Yorkers have to live within their means, therefore, we, as lawmakers should make sure the State does so as well," stated Senator Bonacic.
The fiscal climate of the State presents a number of challenges. The Governor’s budget addresses many of those challenges. In particular, capping local Medicaid costs is an important step in property tax relief.
I also am supportive of his efforts to dedicate more capital assistance to our higher education facilities.
