Senator Bonacic Speaks at Awards Dinner Hosted by Catskill Regional Medical Center

Senator Bonacic attended and spoke at the recent Awards Dinner hosted by Catskill Regional Medical Center which recognized the contributions of all levels of emergency responders in Sullivan County. This event, held during Volunteer Firefighter and EMS week, honors members of local and state police, firefighters, paramedics, volunteer first aid responders, doctors, nurses, and staff members from CRMC for their dedication to the health and safety of Sullivan County residents.

Senator Bonacic Meets with Compassionate Care Advocates

Senator Bonacic met with constituents (l to r) Jessica Koock, Cindy Tangney and Eileen Konieczny recently at the District Office to discuss the Compassionate Care Act (SB4406) which would legalize marijuana for a certified medical use, and could only be administered by a certified patient or designated caregiver.  The Senator advised them that he would support the bill if it came to the Senate floor.

Senator Bonacic Attends Senior Volunteer Recognition Ceremony hosted by the Orange County Office of the Aging

Senator Bonacic attended and spoke at the recent RSVP Volunteer Recognition luncheon hosted by the Orange County Office for the Aging.  The Senator recognized hundreds of seniors who continue to serve their community.  Special recognition was given to William Denette who volunteers at the Round Hill Elementary School, and to senior volunters at the Albert Wisner Public Library, Pine Bush Public Library, Hill-Hold Museum, Historical Society of Newburgh, and the Orange County Genealogical Society. Senator Bonacic Attends Heroin & Opioid Addiction Task Force Forum in Newburgh

Senator Bonacic attended and spoke at the Heroin & Opioid Addiction Forum hosted by Senator Larkin which was held at the Newburgh Armory Unity Center last week.  Representatives from law enforcement; health, treatment and recovery centers; as well as local elected officials met to discuss this alarming epidemic. Walter Kittle

In 1981, at the age of 17, Walter Kittle entered the Navy. He has since distinguished himself with more than 30 years of service to the United States, both on active duty and in the reserves with the Navy, Army National Guard and the New York Air Guard.

From 1981 to 1989, Mr. Kittle served as a Petty Officer Third Class in the United States Navy, and from 1989 to 2003, he was a member of the New York Army National Guard, 101 Cavalry A Troop. Kittle served as a Commissioned First Lieutenant in the Army National Guard from August 1991 to September 2003, and during that time, he attended Officer Candidate School and received a commission. In 2003, Mr. Kittle transferred to the New York State Air National Guard at Stewart Air National Guard Base, where he served until 2013.

Senator Bonacic with 2014 Woman of Distinction honoree, Barbara Sush and her husband, Richard Sush

Barbara Sush was honored as a New York Senate 2014 Woman of Distinction reception held in Albany on May 13. Sush a retired schoolteacher from Sullivan County, is a leader in numerous organizations and as a Master Gardener, has worked on various beautification projects throughout Sullivan County.  Here is the Senator with Barbara and her husband, Richard.

Barbara Sush

Barbara Sush is a retired teacher who is involved in various organizations, and has spent over 15 years dedicating herself to beautifi cation projects in her community. She was an elementary school teacher for 35 years with the Liberty Central School District. After her retirement, she began working as an office manager at Body, Mind & Spirit Wellness Center on a part-time basis.

Senator Bonacic Secures $100,000 Grant for the Town of Mount Hope

Senator John Bonacic announces that the Town of Mount Hope has been awarded $100,000 in funding from the Municipal Facilities Capital Program.

“The funding was able to be secured as a result of the strong advocacy by County Legislators, Melissa Bonacic and Dennis Simmons, along with the leadership of Town Supervisor, Chad Volpe,” said Senator Bonacic.

Senator Bonacic with Walton resident, Peg Shafer, who was honored at the 2014 Senior Citizens Day Celebration recently.  Shafer is a member of the New Hope Community Church and an active volunteer with the Church's soup kitchen.  She also works the Pancake Tent at the Delaware County Fair.  Also honored was Sullivan County's Arthur Viele, a volunteer medical driver, a member of the Sullivan County Historical Society as well as many other Sullivan County organizations.

Senator Bonacic Attends Police Officers Memorial Remembrance Ceremony in Albany, May 6

Senator Bonacic attended the Police Officers Memorial Remembrance Ceremony in Albany on May 6. This event honored 20 fallen police officers from law enforcement agencies across New York State, including five who died in 2013 in the line of duty.  The names of these 20 officers join the 1,340 others who have been inscribed on the Police Officers' Memorial, which represents 140 police agencies statewide and five federal agencies.  The officers' names are placed randomly on the wall, without rank, to signify that every officer's sacrifice is the same.
