MAJOR FEDERAL DISASTER DECLARED FOR NINETEEN NEW YORK COUNTIES HIT BY IRENE

The President has declared a major disaster in the following counties:

Delaware
Orange
Sullivan
Ulster
Albany
Clinton
Dutchess
Essex
Greene
Montgomery
Nassau
Rensselaer
Rockland
Saratoga
Schenectady
Schoharie
Suffolk
Warren
Westchester

This qualifies residents and businesses in these counties for direct federal assistance with basic necessities, cleanup and rebuilding efforts. For more information on the available programs please visit http://www.fema.gov/news/newsrelease.fema?id=57534. To begin applying for assistance you can visit www.DisasterAssistance.gov or call 1-800-621-FEMA(3362) or 1-800-462-7585 (TTY) for the hearing and speech impaired. On Thursday, August 11th, 2011 Senator Bonacic attended and spoke at the signing of the consent order between TechCity and the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC).  The Consent Order enables TechCity to redevelop portions of the site for productive uses while requiring the cleanup of the property in other areas.

The new Orange Regional Medical Center Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony in the Town of Wallkill

On July 29th, 2011 Senator Bonacic attended and spoke at the celebratory ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new Orange Regional Medical Center.  Orange Regional is the first new hospital in New York State in over twenty years.  This new state-of-the-art facility located in the Town of Wallkill will provide families with high-tech healthcare services that were previously unavailable in our area.

Jillian Dolce, an 8th grade student from Minisink Valley Middle School visited Senator Bonacic to discuss her Not-for-Profit, "One Step at a Time, Inc."

On Wednesday, July 27th, 2011, Jillian Dolce an 8th grade student from Minisink Valley Middle School visited Senator Bonacic to discuss her Not-for-Profit organization, One Step at a Time, Inc."  Jillian started her nonprofit organization last year while organizing a walk for Lymphoma Research in honor of one of her teachers.  Jillian was able to rais over $16,000.00, all of which was donated to Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center for Lymphoma Research.

Jillian is currently organizing her 2nd Annual Walk for Lymphoma to be held on September 25th, 2011 in Shannon Park, Slate Hill, N.Y.  All proceeds will benefit Memorial Sloan-Kettering Center for Lymphoma Research.
