March 29, 2011 The New York City Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) has historically forsaken the residents in the New York City Ashokan Watershed and violated National Clean Water Act standards. In addition, ineffective leadership in the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) has contributed to the continued destruction of upstate communities.
On Thursday, March 24th, 2011 Senator Bonacic attended the dedication ceremony of Kaplan Hall at the Newburgh Campus of Orange County Community College. The Kaplan Hall will contain new science labs, a health professions wing for nursing and therapy programs, the campus library and main learning center, the one-stop student center for prospective students, and additional general purpose classrooms.

State Senator John J. Bonacic (R/C/I – Mt. Hope), announced today that Sullivan County would receive a portion of VLT aid, according to a three way agreement between the Assembly, Senate and Executive Chamber, the measure requires final approval in the budget by the legislature.
March 22, 2011 Senator Bonacic met with Nikolas DeJesus from the Saugerties Boys and Girls Club today. Senator Bonacic presented Niko with a Senate Resolution congratulating him on his candidacy for the NYS Boys and Girls Club “Youth of the Year” Award. The Youth of the Year is an annual award given to the young New Yorkers who best represent the values and ideals of the Boys and Girls Club New York State Alliance.

March 10, 2011 “The dangers faced by the people of the Catskills in relation to flooding these past few and next several days are avoidable to a degree. The Senate has previously passed my legislation to require New York City to reduce reservoir levels whenever major inflows of rain or snow were anticipated. Shortly thereafter, New York City started to take some flood mitigation measures.”
Legislation (S.3100), sponsored by Senator John J. Bonacic (R/C/I – Mt. Hope), passed the Senate on March 7, 2011. The legislation expands the list of crimes for which a person is prohibited from becoming a school bus driver.
On March 7, 2011 Senator Bonacic met with Evan Eliason, Jr; a Sidney High School vibraphone player who has been chosen to play in the All State Jazz Ensemble.
