Bonacic Secures $2 Million for Rail Improvements at Port Jervis

State Senator John J. Bonacic (R/I/C – Mt. Hope), MTA Metro North President Howard Permut, and local officials today announced that millions will be invested in upgrades to the Port Jervis Metro-North Station to expand service and improve the Port Jervis station.

 

            “Mass transit needs massive investment.  We need to do more to make the west side of the Hudson accessible by train with a more frequent schedule and faster service,” Senator Bonacic said.

Bonacic Blasts Raid on SUNY Tuition

State Senator John J. Bonacic (R/I/C – Mt. Hope) today called the move to raid SUNY tuition dollars “a tax on the middle class, negotiated in secret, and designed to hurt families who pay SUNY tuition.”  

            The tuition hike is $600.  The raid on the tuition hike will bring $62 million more to State coffers and be spent on things completely unrelated to SUNY or education.

Bonacic Says State Budget Taxes, Spends Too Much, Hurts Everyday New Yorkers

April 1, 2009:  As Legislators from across New York voted on the secretly negotiated State budget, Senator Bonacic expressed his opposition to the plan:  “The State budget has been universally condemned by virtually every major newspaper and government reform group in the State – and for good reason.  This budget taxes too much, spends too much, was developed in secret, and will drive small business out of New York State," Senator Bonacic said.

Senator Bonacic Urges Flood Gauges be Kept Open; Meets With the DEP Officials

State Senator John J. Bonacic met today with DEP Deputy Commissioner Paul Rush to demand that stream gauges in the watershed area be kept open.

The Senator asked the DEP to give him an answer on the gauges later this week.

DEP officials are proposing to close 10 gauges in Sullivan, Orange, and Ulster Counties this year and next.

"Stream gauges are key indicators of the timing and rate of potential flooding. I found the DEP listened to my arguments and I think they have a better understanding of why we need them open," Senator Bonacic said.

MARCH 17, 2009:    State Senator John Bonacic (R/I/C – Mt. Hope), today said it was apparent an income tax hike was being secretly negotiated and would be pushed through by Governor Paterson and Legislative leaders as part of the State budget.  Senator Bonacic said that proceeds from such income tax hike should be directed specifically at property tax relief for middle class families and those struggling to become part of the middle class.

Bonacic: Cutting Belleayre Makes No Sense

State Senator John J. Bonacic, visited Belleayre Mountain ski center on Wednesday and urged the DEC to ensure that the ski center would be able to continue to grow and be the "economic engine” which drives tourism along the Route 28 corridor. The Senator stated that he strongly opposed efforts by the state to diminish operations at Belleayre for the upcoming season.
