SENATOR BONACIC ANNOUNCES CONSTRUCTION GRANT AWARDS OF $321, 503 TO RAMPO-CATSKILL LIBRARY SYSTEM IN SULLIVAN COUNTY

Senator John Bonacic (R/C/I – Mt. Hope), today announced that the Ramapo-Catskill Library System in Sullivan County has been awarded $321,503 in public library construction funds. The grant funds are from $14 million in capital funds for public library construction provided in the 2010 State Budget.  The Daniel Pierce Library will receive $211,035 to renovate the roof, windows and masonry including chimney and structural restoration on brick walls; install new electrical and a fire alarm system, an overhead canopy on the handicapped walkway; replace the heating system with a geothermal system; an entry and exit reconfiguration; fabricate iron railings, expand library service space by 23,500 sq ft and furnish the new interior space. The Ethelbert B.

Senator John Bonacic (R/C/I – Mt. Hope), today announced that the Port Jervis Free Library of the Mid-Hudson Library System in Orange County has been awarded $64,829 in public library construction funds.  The grant funds are from $14 million in capital funds for public library construction provided in the 2010 State Budget. The funds will enable the Port Jervis Free Library to improve the building’s integrity through brick and masonry restoration as well as create new space in the basement for community programs. “Libraries are an important asset to our communities. Maintaining the public library system in all communities should be a priority. Libraries are a priceless resource to our communities and should not be forgotten.

Senator John Bonacic (R/C/I – Mt. Hope), today announced that the Saugerties Public Library of the Mid-Hudson Library System in Ulster County has been awarded $33,000 in public library construction funds.  The grant funds are from $14 million in capital funds for public library construction provided in the 2010 State Budget. The funds will enable the Saugerties Public Library to create new space, install energy efficient windows, improve insulation and install radiant heating through floors on the lower level for the children’s library. “Libraries are an important asset to our communities. Maintaining the public library system in all communities should be a priority. Libraries are a priceless resource to our communities and should not be forgotten.

Kelly Myers has been a pioneering force in human services for over 15 years. Graduating Cum Laude from SUNY New Paltz, she has supervised residential programs for people with disabilities and coordinated clinical services. She continuously strives to help those she worked with obtain as much independence as possible.Currently employed by St. Mary of the Snow Church as Coordinator of Religious Education for the parish, Ms. Myers is renown throughout the Saugerties community for her unwavering dedication to service. She has volunteered for numerous organizations, including Clearwater Sloop, Saugerties Historical Society, Stockade Garden Society, Saugerties Farmer’s Market, Habitat for Humanity and the Saugerties Girls’ Community Club to name a few!

 March 10, 2011 “The dangers faced by the people of the Catskills in relation to flooding these past few and next several days are avoidable to a degree.  The Senate has previously passed my legislation to require New York City to reduce reservoir levels whenever major inflows of rain or snow were anticipated.  Shortly thereafter, New York City started to take some flood mitigation measures.”
