GOVERNOR CUOMO SIGNS INTO LAW SENATOR BONACIC’S LEGISLATION TO CRIMINALIZE CONDUCT AGAINST CORRECTIONS OFFICERS

Governor Cuomo has signed into law legislation (S.5858), sponsored by Senator John Bonacic (R/C/I – Mt. Hope), to criminalize certain conduct against corrections officers and other employees of prison facilities.

The legislation makes it a felony if an inmate intentionally throws the contents of a toilet bowl on correctional employees.

New York State Senate Passes “Joanne’s Law” to Combat Workplace Violence

The New York State Senate has passed legislation (S.2042) sponsored by Senator Bonacic (R/C/I- Mt. Hope) to help prevent violence in the workplace.  The legislation, known as “Joanne’s Law,” requires notification to an employer or workplace when a former employee is released from incarceration or has violated his or her probation or parole, if they committed a crime in that workplace.

Senator Bonacic's Bill to Counter "Paper Terrorism" Passes the Senate

Senator Bonacic speaks on the floor about his bill (S4042) to counter "paper terrorism," which is when false financing statements are filed against public officials in retaliation for carrying out their public duties.
