Senator Flanagan And Assemblyman Dinapoli Work To Enhance Boater Safety

Senator John J. Flanagan (2nd Senate District) and Assemblyman Thomas DiNapoli (16th Assembly District) today joined to announce legislation that would increase the penalties for those convicted of boating while intoxicated (BWI). The legislation, which the two lawmakers have sponsored in their respective houses, would bring the current penalties for BWI up to the level of penalties faced by those convicted of drunk driving.

Senator Flanagan Announces Cap On Gasoline Tax Signed Into Law

Senator John J. Flanagan (2nd Senate District) announced today that a cap on state sales tax on gasoline, which he sponsored in the Senate, will go into effect on June 1. The cap, which was recently signed into law, was a major component of an agreement reached recently between the Senate and the Assembly to offer relief to New York drivers.

The agreement will reduce and cap state sales tax on gasoline at eight cents per gallon, effectively freezing the tax at the $2 per gallon rate.

Flanagan (2nd Senate District) today was publicly thanked by animal rights advocates for his support of legislation that would allow New York counties to ban trapping. The rally was organized by the Bite Back Coalition, a group that advocates the banning of trapping to protect the animals and children of Long Island.The legislation would allow the banning of trapping on a county by county basis.
