Senator Flanagan Joins Burr Intermediate School To Celebrate Reading

Senator John Flanagan (2nd Senate District) recently visited the Burr Intermediate School in Commack to join them in celebrating their yearlong Reading Challenge. Senator Flanagan joined over 80 students at a special "Free to Read" program.The Burr Reading Challenge is an annual school-wide program designed to promote reading. The children who participate are encouraged to read with their families everyday and to visit the local library on a regular basis.

Senator John Flanagan (2nd Senate District) is renewing his call for the New York State Assembly to join the Senate in protecting Long Island residents from skyrocketing fuel costs. To celebrate National Library Week, Senator John J. Flanagan (2nd Senate District) today announced that he has successfully worked to secure over $19 million in funding for the libraries of New York State. This money was included in the Senate budget and the Assembly agreed to the funding during budget negotiations.A key component of the funding is the Senate's plan to use 2000 census numbers to allocate library funding. By discontinuing the use of 1990 census information, the change will allow library funding to accurately reflect changes in population.
