Senator John Flanagan (2nd Senate District) recently visited the Setauket Elementary School to congratulate two of their classes for their recent efforts in the State Senate’s 16th Annual I*MA*GREEN*NATION" competition. The classes won statewide recognition for their environmentally aware entries into the contest.Mrs. Kimberly Shaughnessy’s 3rd grade class won second place in the Literature competition in Grades 1-3. Their project was a compilation of poems that were written by the students regarding the environment and recycling.

Senator John Flanagan (2nd Senate District) announced final passage of legislation to increasing funding levels for important environmental projects. The legislation, which has passed both the Senate and the Assembly, will increase total funding for the New York State Environmental Protection Fund (EPF) to $300 million by 2009. The New York State Legislature created the Environmental Protection Fund (EPF) in 1993 to provide a reliable, dedicated source of funding for a variety of key environmental programs in NYS.

New York State Primary Moved From September 11th To September 18th

Senator John Flanagan (2nd Senate District) announced that legislation to move the date of New York State’s primary day from September 11th, 2007 to September 18th, 2007 has been signed into law by Governor Eliot Spitzer. This change, which was agreed to by both the Assembly and the Senate earlier this month, will move this political event away from the anniversary of the 9/11 attacks to respect the memories of those who were lost.It is estimated that 2,819 people died on September 11th 2001.
