Senator Flanagan Appointed To Historic Bipartisan Committee

Senator John Flanagan (2nd Senate District) has been appointed as a member of a new historic committee that will help the Senate and the Assembly work together to pass meaningful new laws. The Committee on Conference Committees will work with a similar Assembly committee to bring about agreement on major pieces of legislation.The creation of this joint effort was announced by Senate Majority Leader Joseph L. Bruno and Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver.

This change will move this political event away from the anniversary of the 9/11 attacks to respect the memories of those who were lost.It is estimated that 2,819 people died on September 11th 2001. This included approximately 343 firefighters and paramedics along with 23 New York City Police Officers.

Yesterday, I voted against the nomination of Carol Ash to the position of Commissioner of New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation (OPRHP). Senator John Flanagan (2nd Senate District) announced Senate passage of legislation he sponsored that would protect the rights of victims of crimes. This legislation, which was sent to the Assembly, would require that personal information of crime victims and witnesses be kept private in court.The legislation would protect crime victims and witnesses by allowing them to refuse to answer personal questions in open court.
