Senator John Flanagan (2nd Senate District) joined with the Ward Melville Heritage Organization (WMHO) to celebrate the 65th anniversary of the Stony Brook Village Center. The Stony Brook Village Center was completed in 1941 and welcomed its final tenant, Bayles Hardware, on December 7, 1941.Senator Flanagan joined with Gloria Rocchio, President of the WMHO, and others from the Stony Brook community outside the Stony Brook Post Office to recognize the occasion.

Senator Flanagan Joins Families And Union Members To Dedicate A Piece Of The Twin Towers

Senator John Flanagan (2nd Senate District) joined with the Long Island 9/11 Memorial Board to honor the labor unions who took part in recovery efforts at Ground Zero. The eighteen unions honored were each presented with an honorary flag for their dedicated efforts during a ceremony held at the future site of a seven-acre 9/11 memorial on the campus of Farmingdale State University. The event was highlighted by the unveiling of a 1,500 pound I-beam that was recovered at Ground Zero and will become a centerpiece of the future memorial.

Sachem Students Experience A Day In The Life Of Senator Flanagan

Senator John Flanagan (2nd Senate District) recently hosted four students from Sachem High School as part of the school's Job Shadow Day. The students, Kyle Hill and Malika Moro from Sachem North and Jared Kirschenbaum and Mike McKnight from Sachem East, are members of the AP Government program and were chosen to represent their respective classes.The four seniors joined Senator Flanagan as he went through a typical day of attending meetings and events.

Senator Flanagan Announces Improvement To Do Not Call Law

Senator John J. Flanagan (2nd Senate District) today announced that, thanks to a new state law, consumers who register for the New York State Do Not Call registry will be protected from unwanted sales calls in a more timely fashion. To offer enhanced consumer protection, the new law requires telemarketers to update their do not call lists no later than every thirty one days.This change will ensure that those who register their phone number are protected within one month of registration. Prior to this change, a delay of 90 days was allowable by law.

When Dennis John Wickes, Jr. saw his friend struggling off the Kings Park Bluff, he selflessly jumped into the dangerous waters to save a life. For those actions, the Centereach 11th grader was presented with the New York State Senate Liberty Medal by Senator John J. Flanagan (2nd Senate District). The honor was presented to Dennis in front of the entire 11th Grade class at a special assembly at the Centereach High School.In July, Dennis was relaxing with two friends at the Kings Park Bluff when one of the boys decided to go swimming.

Beginning on November 1st, a new law sponsored by Senator John Flanagan (2nd Senate District) will enable New York State consumers to block access to their credit report. The new law, which was signed into law in June, will strengthen the available identity theft protections enjoyed by New Yorkers and severely limit the ability of identity thieves to open fraudulent accounts in the name of innocent consumers.If a credit card company or bank cannot view an applicant’s credit history, they are unlikely to issue that person any new credit cards, loans, etc.

Senator John Flanagan (2nd Senate District) has introduced legislation that would greatly enhance the rights of cell phone consumers. Senator Flanagan sponsored the "Wireless Telephone Service Consumer Protection Act" to help provide safeguards for New York State residents who sign up with a cell phone provider.The main component of the act is the introduction of a trial period for customer evaluation of cell phone service. This evaluation period, which is to last no less than 15 days, would allow a cell phone consumer to test their new service provider.

Flanagan (2nd Senate District) proudly joined the staff and administration of the Stony Brook University Medical Center as they announced the establishment of the Brady William Russell Memorial Fund. Senator Flanagan secured startup funding for the project that will enable research into neonatal complications from high-risk pregnancies, premature birth and Sudden Infant Death (SIDS).The fund is named in honor of Brady William Russell, the son of Sean and Mary Ellen Russell, who passed away earlier this year.
