Organ Donor Information

More than 10,000 New Yorkers are on waiting lists as the need for organ donations far exceeds the supply.  One person who donates organs (hearts, lungs, liver, kidneys, pancreas and intestines) can save up to eight lives, while a tissue donor (corneas, bone, skin, heart valves, tendons, veins, etc.) can improve 12 or more lives by restoring eyesight, helping fight infections in burn patients and preventing the loss of mobility and disability.

Important STAR Program Information from Senator Flanagan

Important information if you receive the Basic STAR property tax savings from New York State

All homeowners who are enrolled in the Basic STAR program must re-register with the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance (NYSDTF) by the end of this year in order to continue getting the STAR exemption for 2014 and beyond. This re-registration is part of a new effort to eliminate fraud and protect property taxpayers.

Hauppauge Patch: Education Commissioner, State Senator Visit Hauppauge Schools

Two state officials got a boots-on-the-ground look at what the Hauppauge school district is doing these days – and they liked what they saw.

Department of Education Commissioner John B. King, Jr., and Sen. John Flanagan, R-East Northport, toured Hauppauge Middle School and Pines Elementary on Monday to observe classes and facilities and talk with students and faculty.

Community Events Information

New York Blood Center (NYBC) is urgently calling on Long Islanders to roll up their sleeves to help fill the void.  According to the NYBC, the cancellations and corresponding loss of donations has led to a low supply of blood – especially O-Negative.

NYBC has events scheduled daily where people can donate and are always welcoming donors to visit one of their walk-in centers.

Senator Flanagan Throws Out First Pitch For Long Island Ducks

Senator John Flanagan (2nd Senate District) recently had the privilege of joining the Long Island Ducks to throw out the ceremonial first pitch before the team’s recent victory over the Lancaster Barnstormers at Bethpage Ballpark in Central Islip.  Senator Flanagan delivered the pitch to former New York Met Bud Harrelson, part-owner of the Ducks and the current bench coach.

Senator Flanagan Joins With Stony Brook Medicine's Prostate Care Program To Promote Awareness

Senator John Flanagan (2nd Senate District) is joining with Stony Brook Medicine’s Prostate Care Program to provide men throughout our community with free prostate screenings to commemorate National Prostate Cancer Awareness month.

The free screenings will be available from Monday, September 16th through Thursday, September 19th from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Stony Brook Urology office located in Suite 500 at 24 Research Way in Setauket.  All examinations are free and conducted under the direction of Medical Director Howard L. Adler, MD, FACS.

Senator Flanagan's Pet Owner Protection Signed Into Law

Senator John Flanagan (2nd Senate District) announced that legislation he sponsored to provide consumers with more protections when they purchase a pet has been signed into law.The new law will expand New York State’s “Pet Lemon Law” by providing consumers with more information about the origins of their pet and greater protections should their pet become ill.

To raise awareness of Hydrocephalus and support the 8th Annual Hydrocephalus WALK, Senator John Flanagan (2nd Senate District) recently welcomed Mia Padron and Jackie Davidson of the Hydrocephalus Association to his office. During the visit, Senator Flanagan presented them with a New York State Senate resolution designating the month of September as Hydrocephalus Awareness Month in New York State.
