Statement from Senator Flanagan Regarding Governor Cuomo's Budget Address

It was encouraging to hear Governor Cuomo publicly discuss taking action on issues that were repeatedly raised by concerned parents and teachers at the recent hearings held by the Senate Education Committee throughout New York State.  Specifically, his support of a ban on standardized testing, which is aligned with legislation I sponsored in December, and his support of a full examination of the implementation of new learning standards is a clear sign to our parents and teachers that their voices are being heard.

PSEG Long Island Warns Customers About an Email Payment Scam

PSEG Long Island is alerting customers not to be defrauded by a scam in which fraudulent emails appear to be bills sent from their utility. The emails request personal information from the customer, leading to identity theft.

PSEG Long Island has received reports of customers receiving such emails and urges its customers to be wary of these types of suspicious emails.  The utility would not ask its customers to provide personal information online without first logging into My Account.

Consumer Alert Regarding Target Information Breach

Retailer Target has announced that data connected to about 40 million credit and debit card accounts was stolen as part of a breach that began over the Thanksgiving weekend.  According to Target, if you used your credit or debit card in any of their stores, it is potential that your information was accessed.

Senator Flanagan Presents Liberty Medal To Smithtown Student

Senator John Flanagan (2nd Senate District) recently presented the New York State Senate Liberty Medal to ten-year-old Kyle Geringer of Smithtown for his efforts in alerting his Smithtown neighbors about a chimney fire at their home.  Senator Flanagan joined Kyle and his family in his fifth-grade class at Accompsett Elementary School, which is taught by Mr. Scott Miller, for a special ceremony organized by Principal Jeanne Kull-Minarik.
