STAR Re-Registration Assistance Event

Senator Flanagan Announces New Counsel To Education Committee

New York State Senator John J. Flanagan is pleased to announce the appointment of Carl Mills III as his new Counsel to the Senate Education Committee.  Mr. Mills is a well seasoned graduate of Albany Law School and has worked as a member of Senator Flanagan’s staff for the past two years; first as a fellow in the New York State Graduate Fellowship program, and more recently as Special Counsel to the Senator.

John Flanagan is an interesting politician with a bright future, A State Senator who represents the affluent North Shore of Long Island; in a period were the word “Republican” brings up images of the “Tea Party” and attacks on the President, the Affordable Care Act, immigration and just about every federal and state entitlement program Flanagan has steered clear of the ideology-driven rhetoric. He has wide support across the spectrum.

The New York State Senate has a unique leadership – Republican Dean Skelos is the titular party leader, he shares the leadership with Jeff Klein, a Democrat, who leads the break-away Independent Democratic Caucus. Bills require a Skelos-Klein nod to get to the floor.

Senator Flanagan Helps Open New Press Box At Kings Park High School

Senator John Flanagan (2nd Senate District) recently joined with members of the Kings Park School District community to cut the ribbon on the new press box at the Kings Park High School football field.  The new facility was funded through a state grant of $85,000 that Senator Flanagan helped secure.

The new press box will replace an older one which was accessible only by ladder and had been deemed unsafe for both students and faculty.  To ensure safety and comfort, the new facility features a glass-enclosed broadcast booth that overlooks the playing field and a rooftop platform that enables safe filming of on-field activities.

Newsday: Part of Route 110 renamed for late Assemb. James Conte

Officials dedicated a section of Route 110 as the Assemblyman James D. Conte Memorial Highway in honor of the late politician at a ceremony Saturday in downtown Huntington.

Conte, who was elected to the Assembly in 1988 as a Republican and served Huntington Station for 24 years, died of cancer a year ago this month at age 53.

"I'm honored and proud, and I'm speechless," said his tearful widow, Debra, after the unveiling of a sign on New York Avenue bearing her late husband's name. "He was a leader. He was strong. He was upfront. He told it like it was."

Senator Flanagan Hails Late Assemblyman Conte’s Organ Donation Law

Senator John Flanagan (2nd Senate District) proudly announced that Lauren’s Law (S.7103A of 2012), which the late Assemblyman James Conte led the fight to pass last year to increase enrollment of organ donors in New York State, is now in effect in New York State.  The law will require common sense changes to license applications in New York State to help increase organ donation.

Organ Donor Information

More than 10,000 New Yorkers are on waiting lists as the need for organ donations far exceeds the supply.  One person who donates organs (hearts, lungs, liver, kidneys, pancreas and intestines) can save up to eight lives, while a tissue donor (corneas, bone, skin, heart valves, tendons, veins, etc.) can improve 12 or more lives by restoring eyesight, helping fight infections in burn patients and preventing the loss of mobility and disability.
