  • Let's Not Gamble with Our Children's Future

    I’m not a gambling man. Yet if I had a dime for every time I mentioned the benefits of arts education, I’d wager that I would have just about enough to close the $3 billion budget gap facing New York State.  Well, maybe not quite that much, but judging from my experience this week alone, I think it would be a hefty sum.

  • Serrano at Island Kids Celebration

    Senator Serrano was on Roosevelt Island for the culmination of the Island Kids Summer Camp. The camp is for children ages 5 to 13, and its programming includes swimming, sports, arts and crafts, music, culinary arts, and weekly field trips. This program offers partial and full scholarships to low-income families, who might otherwise not be able to participate. The 2009 season kicked off on July 7th, and there was an upbeat closing ceremony on August 26th.
