Senator Serrano Visits the Bronx Documentary Center

(Bronx, NY)- Senator Serrano visited the Bronx Documentary Center for a tour of their site and exhibits. The Bronx Documentary Center was founded in 2011 and is a non-profit gallery and educational space. The Center displays local photography, film, and new media and has rotating exhibits focusing on the community.  As the Senator frequently points out, local arts organizations add to our cultural fabric and act as an economic engine for the South Bronx. Senator Serrano is a long-time supporter of the arts and serves as the Ranking Member on the Senate Committee on Cultural Affairs, Tourism, Parks & Recreation.

(Bronx, NY)- In honor of Black History Month, Senator Serrano joined other elected officials at State Senator Ruben Diaz Sr.'s  "African-American Abrazo" event. An enthusiastic crowd packed Maestro's Caterers in The Bronx for a celebration of Black History Month and an award ceremony honoring exemplary leaders in the community. Senator Serrano Fights for More Clean Fuel Conversions for Buildings in The Bronx

(Bronx, NY)- Senator Serrano joined Assemblyman Marcos Crespo and Bronx elected officials and colleagues in a press conference calling for more clean fuel conversions for buildings in The Bronx. New regulations mandate that all buildings stop burning dirty, old-style #6 and #4 heating oils and convert to cleaner technology.

Senator Serrano Helps Deliver Toys in East Harlem

(East Harlem, NY)- Senator Serrano joined Governor Andrew Cuomo's office and the New York Power Authority to deliver holiday toys to local children in East Harlem at the Union Settlement Association. Senator Serrano was also accompanied by representatives from the New York City Council Speaker, Melissa Mark-Viverito's office and Assemblyman Robert Rodriguez's office.

This major announcement comes after the Department of Health, citing numerous studies on the negative consequences of hydrofracking, presented their recommendation to ban the practice in New York State.

Senator Serrano Participates in the 11th Annual East Harlem Tree Lighting Ceremony

(East Harlem, NY)- Senator Serrano joined The East Harlem Holiday Tree Committee, East Harlem community residents, and his colleagues for the 11th Annual El Barrio/East Harlem Tree Lighting ceremony. The tree lighting took place in Franklin Plaza on East 106th Street and Third Avenue. This year's theme is "El Barrio United Through Adversity: Remembering our loss, celebrating our fortitude" and the ceremony was dedicated to all those affected by the East Harlem explosion that occurred in March.

Senator Serrano Serves as Keynote Speaker for the New York Botanical Garden's Puerto Rican Heritage Month Celebration

(Bronx, NY)- Senator Serrano served as the keynote speaker for the New York Botanical Garden's (NYBG) Puerto Rican Heritage Month celebration. The NYBG's celebration included an array of presentations and workshops that highlighted Puerto Rican culture for school groups. Senator Serrano had the distinct honor of providing the keynote address for the celebration.

"It was an honor to serve as keynote speaker for the NYBG's Puerto Rican Heritage Month celebration," said Senator Serrano. "Local students were treated to a cultural feast of all that Puerto Rico has to offer - from the history of the island, to the arts and culture,folklore, food, dance and music. I am so proud of my Puerto Rican culture and how it's part of the wonderful and diverse mosaic we call New York City!"

Senator Serrano Hosts Hands-Only CPR Training on the Upper West Side

(Upper West Side, NY)- Senator Serrano hosted a free hands-only CPR training course at the JASA Senior Center on the Upper West Side. The American Heart Association provided participants with an in-depth, informative class on this life-saving technique. Sudden Cardiac Arrest is a leading cause of death in the U.S.- but when ordinary people are equipped with the skills to perform CPR, the survival rate can double, or even triple.
