Senator Serrano sponsored a Health Workshop for Seniors as part of his monthly Roosevelt Island Constituent hours. The Senator has consistently fought to protect public health – on issues related to air quality, food access and environmental justice –throughout the 28th District.
(East Harlem, NY) - Senator José M. Serrano, in conjunction with the Visiting Nurse Service of New York (VNSNY), offered free flu shots to the community at his District Office.
“Going into these winter months it is important that we all protect ourselves from the flu virus and remain in good health,” said Senator Serrano. “Many thanks to the great RNs at the VNSNY for providing and administering the shots to constituents from across my district,” concluded Serrano.

Serrano will moderate a panel discussion at the SOMOS el Futuro Conference weekend in Albany, entitled “Addressing Health Disparities in the Latino Community.” The topic of this workshop is a discussion with experts in the field of health regarding the alarming rate of chronic diseases that are disproportionately affecting the Latino community. Chronic diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, obesity, hypertension, and others have reached epidemic proportions among Latino populations and other communities of color.
