Senator Serrano Co-Sponsors Open House at "La Marqueta"

Senator José M. Serrano and the New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC), along with other community leaders and elected officials, co-sponsored an open house at East Harlem's La Marqueta. 

The open-house gave members of the community a chance to sample the newest additions to the market, as well as an opportunity to take a tour of Hot Bread Kitchen, a commercial kitchen space dedicated to train women for baking commercially. Hot Bread Kitchen also contains an incubator kitchen, designed for those who are in need of a commercially licensed area to cook their goods for an affordable price.

Senator Serrano Joins District Attorney Cyrus R. Vance for East Harlem Town Hall

Senator Jose M. Serrano joined Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus R. Vance for an East Harlem Town Hall meeting. The meeting was co-sponsored by Community Board #11, and was attended by elected officials, leaders and residents of the East Harlem Community.  District Attorney Vance highlighted his new initiatives and priorities, and gave attendees the opportunity to ask questions and voice their concerns. "I'm very glad to be here, alongside the District Attorney, to hear the concerns of the East Harlem community and to make them aware of the services provided by our respective offices," said Senator Serrano. "I look forward to working with District Attorney Vance in the future on many of the East Harlem issues discussed here today."

SENATOR SERRANO FIGHTS FOR EQUAL RESOURCES FOR ALL SENATE DISTRICTS

(Albany, NY)- Today Senator Serrano (D-Manhattan/Bronx) expressed his disappointment at the defeat of an Amendment, of which he is the sponsor, that would provide equal allocations to each member of the New York State Senate. These allocations include staff, printed materials, postage, and travel costs.

The amendment has been previously presented by the Republican Conference, and was based on the Minority Report to the Temporary Committee on Rules Reform, which was authored by three Republican Senators. Today the Democratic Conference presented three amendments to Senate Rules, further building on their commitment to enacting significant rules reform within the New York State Senate.

Serrano Supports Introduction of Sweeping Rules Reform

(ALBANY, NY)- Senator José M.  Serrano (D-Manhattan/Bronx) and his Senate colleagues today called on every member of the New York State Senate to join them in passing a rules reform resolution, sponsored by Senator Liz Krueger (D-Manhattan), which aims to create more accountability and equality within the New York State Senate, and to protect the reforms passed by the Legislature in 2009.“I’m extremely proud of the reforms we were able to get passed while in the Majority. Senator Serrano Celebrates Three Kings Day!

Senator Serrano today celebrated Three Kings Day by participating in El Barrio's 34th Annual Three Kings Day Parade. Various school groups and organizations from all over New York City take part in this local event each year.
