Serrano and Students Discuss Gun Violence in NYC Neighborhoods

Senator Serrano met with youth from New Yorkers Against Gun Violence, a group advocating for sensible gun legislation in the state of New York.  The students were taking part in the organization’s Albany Lobby Day, and they shared with Senator Serrano their experiences and the experiences of their communities regarding the use of illegal weapons in New York City neighborhoods.

Albany, NY - Senator Serrano (D-Manhattan/Bronx) today highlighted major legislative triumphs during an otherwise difficult budget season.

"Never let a serious crisis go to waste," said Serrano, echoing the words of White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel. "In bad economic times, we find the political will to enact progressive reform."

NYSCA FUNDING 

"We were able to restore more than $4 million to the New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA)," said Serrano, the Chair of the Committee on Cultural Affairs, Tourism, Parks & Recreation. Together with additional funding from the federal government, this totals more than $7 million.
