Nearly 500 women's health care advocates gathered in Albany to advocate for women's issues, including the passage of the full ten point Women's Equality Agenda which is designed to ensure equal pay, alleviate sexual harassment in the workplace, end family status discrimination and protect a woman's right to choose.

New Bill Introduced Eliminating Sale of Children's Products with Formaldehyde in NYS
NEW YORK - State Senator José M. Serrano and Assemblymember Brian Kavanagh announced the introduction of a new bill banning the sale of children's products containing the carcinogen formaldehyde by manufacturers, wholesalers, and retailers in New York State.

(Bronx, NY)- Senator Serrano joined The Orchestra of the Bronx at Bronx Community College for a presentation of Handel's Messiah. Serrano, who is a long-time advocate for the arts, served as one of the orators for this annual holiday event. The event is widely-attended and has become a holiday tradition for the Bronx community. The Orchestra of the Bronx (The Bronx Opera Chorus and soloists), conducted by Michael Spearman, presented the words in Handel's timeless musical settings.
(East Harlem, NY)- Senator Serrano joined The East Harlem Holiday Tree Committee, East Harlem community residents, and his colleagues for the 10th Annual El Barrio/East Harlem Tree Lighting Ceremony. As per tradition, the tree lighting took place at Franklin Plaza on the northeast corner of Third Avenue and 106th street.

(Bronx, NY)- Senator José M. Serrano wrote a letter to the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) expressing his concerns with regards to the lack of repairs at Mitchell Houses Senior Center in the Bronx. Serrano visited the center in November of last year and noticed the concerning and hazardous large opening in the ceiling adjacent to the entrance, which was the result of water damage. Serrano urged NYCHA to take into consideration the health and well-being of the seniors at the center being exposed to these health hazards. See below for letter.
(East Harlem, NY)- Senator Serrano and Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman celebrated the holiday spirit by serving Thanksgiving dinner at the New York Common Pantry in East Harlem. The New York Common Pantry is a community-based food pantry dedicated to reducing hunger by providing New Yorkers with meals.

“Going into these winter months it is important that we all protect ourselves from the flu virus and remain in good health,” said Senator Serrano. “Many thanks to the great RNs at the VNSNY for providing and administering the shots to constituents from across my district,” concluded Serrano.

(East Harlem, NY) - Senator José M. Serrano spoke to government students at Renaissance Innovation High School about his career in New York government. The visit was an opportunity for the students to receive an inside look on working in government and civil service. Senator Serrano spoke of the importance of leadership, advocacy and fighting for the needs of the community.

"They were so interested in learning more about government and very insightful about issues affecting our community on a local, state and national level. (Bronx, NY) - Senator Serrano joined members of the community at the New York Botanical Garden's Annual Holiday Christmas Tree and Menorah Lighting celebrations. The festivities included the grand opening of the Holiday Train Show and the lighting ceremonies featuring song selections by the Westchester Chordsmen.
