Forum/Town Hall: Making Sure We Count: Hispanics and Census 2010 by Senator Malave Dilan

Latinos have a significant stake in the outcome of the 2010 Census. The count will determine the distribution of billions of federal dollars for education, affordable housing, job training and other critical community services. The Census also forms the very foundation of America's representative system of governance, directly impacting the kind of electoral opportunities and representation our community will have over the next decade. Speakers will discuss the ongoing work by government and community leaders to ensure a full and accurate count of Hispanics in New York State.

Forum/Town Hall: ¡Sí, Se Puede!: Fulfilling the Promise of Immigration Reform

Immigration has been and continues to be one of the key forces sustaining and driving America’s success. However, due to federal inaction and the anti-immigrant rhetoric of the political right, Congress has been unable to pass a comprehensive reform bill to empower a new generation of immigrants to fully contribute to our way of life. This session will discuss the current policy and political outlook for immigration reform and the tools and strategies needed to help groups mobilize their communities and influence Congress to support humane and progressive change.
