Voters confused over changing polling sites in Queens

As reported by the New York Daily News: 

Queens voters and lawmakers are scratching their heads over a series of poll site changes for the Sept. 13 primary.

Voters say they have received multiple mailers from the city Board of Elections directing them to different polling sites.

In some cases, the new sites are far from their homes — presenting a challenge to elderly and disabled voters.

“I received a notice telling me to go to my regular polling place and then a week later another notice telling me to go to a school 10 blocks away,” said state Sen. Jose Peralta, whose office has been flooded with calls from voters. “I can walk but some seniors can’t travel that far. It’s an issue.”

Queens Voters Forced to Trek a Mile After Polling-Place Swap

As reported by DNA Info:

QUEENS — On Tuesday, 59-year-old Ditmars resident Wendy Rodriguez crossed the street with the help of a crossing guard outside of P.S. 2 on 21st Avenue.

The two began chatting, and the guard asked Rodriguez, a school administrator, if she had received a letter earlier this year from the Board of Elections, explaining that the polling site at the school would be closed for November's election.

Hands-On Demo of New Optical Scan Voting Machines

Starting this fall, all lever voting machines in NY state will be replaced with electronic optical scan voting machines.  Join Senator Peralta for a hands-on demonstration with the Board of Elections.  All participants will have the opportunity to try out the new voting machines.
