As reported by Legislative Gazette:

"Rather than unilaterally substituting your own judgment for that of district attorneys and chiefs of police from all over the state, put microstamping to a vote," said Peralta. "Listen to — and let the public hear — the arguments put forth in support of microstamping by law enforcement and [then, by comparison] those advanced by the National Rifle Association in opposition to the bill."

Statement By State Senator Jose Peralta

“Microstampting, reproductive health, the Dream Act: These are not small or inconsequential bills that the Republicans have cleared off the table of public discussion along with other thoughtful pieces of legislation.

“The microstamping and reproductive health bills, as well as the Dream Act, have significant support, including from numerous editorial boards.

“It seems that in an election year, Republicans don’t want to have to vote against legislation with significant support.

Statement By State Senator Jose Peralta On Father-Son Sex Trafficking and Prostitution Operation

“The sex trafficking and prostitution operation dismantled by the Manhattan District Attorney’s office, NYPD and federal authorities is yet another example of the barbaric treatment trafficked women are subjected to for the profit of ruthless pimps.

“It also underscores the need to reclassify sex trafficking as a violent felony. in recognition of the brutality of the crime and the punishment it warrants.  I recently introduced a bill in the New York State Senate that would make sex trafficking a violent felony and increase the minimum jail sentence to five years.  The minimum sentence currently is one to three years.
