New Pavilion at the Greece Town Campus

I was pleased to work with Greece Town Supervisor Bill Reilich and the Greece Town Board to secure funding for a new entertainment pavilion at the Greece Town Campus. This beautiful new pavilion will host a variety of events, from concerts and senior dances, to special event services and ceremonies. This is another great addition to the Greece community and another great amentity for its residents.

Town of Gates Memorial Day Ceremony

I joined the Gates community at Gates Town Hall for their annual Memorial Day service. It was great to see so many residents and area vetereans come out to pay their respect and honor those who paid the ulitimate sacrfice for our freedom. Senator Robach Inducts World War II Veteran Anthony Ferrarese into NYS Veterans Hall of Fame

State Senator Joe Robach is proud to announce the induction of Anthony “Tony” Ferrarese, an active member in the Rochester veteran community, to the New York State Senate Veterans Hall of Fame on Tuesday, May 19. This honor is designed to pay tribute to New Yorkers whose gallantry in the U.S. Armed Forces is complimented by their service to the community and their accomplishments as a civilian. 

“The New York State Senate Veteran’s Hall of Fame gives special recognition to distinguished individuals as a way to express our deep gratitude and admiration” said Senator Robach. “Tony has dedicated his life to serving this nation, his comrades and his community, and is most deserving of this great honor.”

The Outdoor Group Opens Shop in Monroe County

I recently had the opportunity to help welcome the Outdoor Group to Monroe County as they move their headquarters and manufacturing operations to the Town of Henrietta. A holding company for a variety of outdoor and archery businesses, including Elite Archery, the Outdoor Group will employ over 100 people at its new location. It's a remarkable story, started in the basement of owner Peter Crawford's home, and has grown to one of the outdoor and archery manufacturers in the country. Congratulations to Peter and the entire team at the Outdoor Group, and thank you for choosing Monroe County for your new headquarters!

BCCR Pink Ribbon Walk & Run

On Mother's Day morning, I was pleased joined the Breast Cancer Coalition of Rochester for its annual Pink Ribbon Walk and Run at Genesee Valley Park. I have been proud to support this fundraiser and the BCCR for many years, and have seen the positive impact of the Breast Cancer Coalition's work. It was another great turnout of over 4,000 people came out to participate and support BCCR, thanks to all who came out!

Members of Alternatives for Battered Women recently announced that the agency is re-naming itself as the Willow Domestic Violence Center. After nearly 40 years as Alternatives for Battered Women, the Willow Domestic Violence Center will still offer the same service and assitance for ALL victims of domestic violence - female or male, young or old, the Willow Center is available to help. Memorial Sign Dedication for RPD Officer Daryl Pierson

I was incredibly humbled and honored to join the family of fallen RPD Officer Daryl Pierson, members of the RPD and the Rochester community to dedicate a memorial sign at the site where Officer Pierson was tragically killed in the line of duty. Located at the corner of Ernst Street and Hudson Avenue, this sign will forever remind our community of the ultimate sacrifice Daryl made protecting our streets. Many thanks to Sgt. Justin Collins and the members of the Badge of Honor Association for their work in getting this sign displayed.

Announcing $2.3 Million in Childcare Subsidies for Monroe County

I was proud to join my colleague Senator Rich Funke, George Rommell of the YMCA of Rochester, County Executive Maggie Brooks and Mayor Lovely Warren to announce that in this years' state budget, we were able to secure $2.3 million in childcare subsides for Monroe County. This funding will do tremendous good in making sure that familes and hard working single parents in our community have safe and responsible child care for their children.

Earlier this year, Governor Andrew Cuomo attempted to enact far-reaching educational reforms as part of the 2015-2016 New York State budget. 

My Senate colleagues and I, very early on in this year's budget adoption process, rejected the broad scope of the original Cuomo education reform plan and, in particular, the plan's over-reliance on testing.

The New Gates Public Library Early Learning Center

It was an exciting day at the Gates Public Library yesterday as we cut the ribbon on the new Early Learning Center. I was proud to secure a $15,000 grant to help transform this unoccupied space in the library into a fun area for children to learn and play. I am certain this will be a popular addition to the Gates Public Library!

Greece Tree Planting in Honor of Jerry Helfer

I was honored to join my colleagues in government to help plant a tree on the Greece Town Campus in memory of Jerry Helfer. I was fortunate to work with Jerry in his roles at Monroe County and the Town of Greece, he truly embodied the meaning public employee and was always attentative to the needs of his constituents. This was a wonderful tribute Jerry and his family.

Groundbreaking at the Seymour Library

I was excited to help break ground on the new Local History Room addition to the Seymour Library in Brockport. The addition was made possible through funding from the State Education Department, which I was pleased to support. I can't wait to go back for the ribbon cutting in November!

Our region, with our skilled workforce, and RIT could benefit from the passage of this legislation.

I joined the Monroe County/City of Rochester Coalition for Crime Victims to help kickoff National Crime Victims' Rights Week, which will take place from April 19 - April 25. National Crime Victims' Rights Week highlights the support crime victims need in their road to recovery. Many thanks to all of the local law enforcement officials and advocacy agencies in our community that help crime victims every day.

Scott Spino Foundation Honored

Congratulations to the Scott Spino Foundation for receiving the Friends of Education Award from the School Administrators Association of New York State. Geri and Jerry Spino have dedicated their lives to remembering their son Scott, a popular RCSD teacher who was tragically killed by a drunk driver, by raising money and donating books to local schools. I had the privilege of awarding Geri with the New York State Senate's Woman of Distinction Award in 2014. Once again congratulations to Geri, Jerry and everyone involved with the Scott Spino Foundation, it certainly is a well deserved recognition.
