Yesterday morning, School #30 principal Jason Wertz and the rest of the faculty and staff of the school celebrated the success of its children in grades pre-K thru 6 who read 22,000 books from mid-October until mid-December. As past of the event, the students got a visit from the Rochester Fire Department and Principal Wertz was sent to the roof for the children to see! Congratulations to all of the students on this tremendous accomplishment.
Last night, I had the privilege to attend an event where the Greece Rotary recognized outstanding youth in our community. Congratulations to all the young men and women on your distinction and thank you for making contributions to our community. Best wishes and continued success for all you do inside, and outside, of the classroom! The young men and women are Joseph Miller, Vanessa Whitt, Kyle Besser, Julia Kostin, Patrick Barry, Nathan Christensen, Bianca Sansone, Elijah VanOrman, Jordan Coolidge, and Timmy Webster.
Earlier this morning, I had the privilege to take part in the Virgil I. Grissom School #7 Faculty/Guest vs. Students basketball game. I was joined by New York State Assemblyman Brian Kolb, along with faculty and staff from School #7. Prior to the game, I had the opportunity to meet with students in their classroom, and following the game, I met members of the school's basketball team. Great job by everyone this morning and great school spirit shown by all of the students in attendance!
Earlier today, the New York State Thruway Authority pulled a plan which would have increased tolls on the Thruway 45% for commercial trucks. I would like to thank everyone who signed my on-petition to call on the NYS Thruway Authority NOT to increase tolls. Your voices have been heard by the Authority and our Governor. Also, I would like to thank the folks at Klein Steel, Inc. for their support and hosting a press conference in August that discussed the negative impact a toll hike would have on jobs, the working class, and small businesses in our community. Finally, thanks to Steve Wadhams of Wadhams Enterprises. This time the loud voice of people served democracy well.
On Saturday, I had the privilege to take part in the WDKX 103.9 FM Share the Warmth annual holiday event. This event provides children the opportunity to pick up winter coats, gloves, mittens, scarves, and hats that were graciously donated to WDKX. Thank you to all who helped make this event possible!
Yesterday afternoon, I had the opportunity to visit with guests at the 2012 Career Fair For Business and Technical Professionals. I was proud to sponsor this event with Monroe Community College, Time Warner Cable, Angelo Planning Group, LLC, RochesterWorks!, and The August Group. Thank you to all of the area businesses and organizations who were on hand to meet with prospective employees. Earlier today, I had the privilege to attend the annual North Clinton Tree Lighting. The event featured a parade, which included Santa Claus and students from Schools Number 9 and 20 in the City of Rochester. The event is sponsored by the North Clinton Business Association, along with support from Albert Algarin.
Yesterday, I had the opportunity to speak at the grand opening ceremony for Banzai Sushi and Cocktail Bar. The business recently opened in the South Wedge. Banzai cuisine is a casual restaurant and bar that serves sushi and Dim sum, done our way. On Friday afternoon, I had the privilege to take part in the annual School #9 Cookie Contest as a judge. There were a number of worthy entries! Great job by all those who took part in this annual holiday tradition!
On Friday I had the privilege to join with business owner Patrick Ralleo to cut the ribbon on the State Street Bakery and Eatery, located Downtown at 165 State St.
After seven years of planning, Patrick Ralleo opened the State Street Bakery and Eatery on Oct. 15, and has been offering fresh baked goods every morning, including croissants, Danish, cakes and breads. The State Street Bakery and Eatery also serves lunch specialty sandwiches, wraps and salads. Wedding cakes are also available for order.
Last night I had the privilege to join families from the Town of Greece, the Greece Arcadia Middle School Chorus, and Santa Claus at the Town of Greece Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony. It was a pleasure to see so many families taking part in this year's ceremony. Great job by the Greece Arcadia Middle School Chorus in their performance last night!
This afternoon, I had the opportunity to speak at the grand opening ceremony for MediSked, LLC, located on University Avenue. MediSked, LLC was born out of a partnership between provider agency management and proven success with software engineering. The founders of MediSked started the company as a research innovation at RIT in Rochester, NY back in 2003. What started out as an exhaustive search for an existing agency management software solution specific for home and community based provider agencies, quickly turned into the creation of MediSked and its one of a kind software solution that manages the unique workflows and requirements of such agencies.
On Friday afternoon, I had the privilege to speak at the grand opening ceremony for Buckingham Properties new corporate office, located in Alexander Park at 259 Alexander Street. Founded in 1970, Buckingham Properties LLC is the largest and most diverse real estate development and property management company in the Rochester area. The company currently owns and manages more than 40 properties comprising over 8.5 million square feet of rental space in the Greater Rochester region.
In the continuing tradition of bringing quality entertainment and giving back to the Rochester Community, 103.9 WDKX FM will be spreading joy this holiday season, with the "Share the Warmth" coat giveaway taking place Saturday, December 1st as well as Saturday, December 15th at the Salem United Church of Christ (60 Bittner St.). With the help of multiple community organizations, WDKX will be distributing coats, hats & gloves, and pictures with Santa Clause to the less fortunate children of our community.
Earlier this afternoon I had the opportunity to meet with a group of boy scouts from Troop 18. The four scouts, who visited my district office, discussed issues regarding our community as they complete the process for their Citizenship Merit Badge. In addition to our community, we also discussed how government operates in New York State and current issues facing our state government.
Earlier today I had the privilege to visit with some of Greece's senior population at the annual Thanksgiving party, which was held at the Town of Greece Community and Senior Center. As always, the lunch was a hit, complete with turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, gravy, and pumpkin pie for dessert. Musical entertainment was provided following the lunch.

On Thursday afternoon, I had the privilege to attend, and speak at, the grand opening ceremony for WebTitle Agency's new corporate office, located in Brighton. WebTitle and partner companies Cascade Settlement Agency and Customized Lenders Services are now located at 500-A Canal View Boulevard. The new corporate headquarters occupies approximately 31,000 square feet with 37 separate offices, multiple training rooms with versatile conference space, Wi-Fi access and upwards of 200 parking spaces. This new facility will allow the staff of 160 to better integrate the three business units, further enhance the products/services offered to better serve the needs of their client partners and allow ample space for continued expansion.
Throughout this past weekend, I had the honor and privilege to be a part of many great events around our community to honor all of our veterans as a part of Veterans Day weekend. Thank you to all of the courageous ment and women who sacrificed so much to fight for our country, and allow us to enjoy life as we know it today.
