Cutting the Ribbon on Art Walk Expansion Project

On Thursday, I had the privilege to speak at the ribbon cutting ceremony for the Art Walk Extension and Enhancement Project. The project reconstructs University Avenue from North Goodman Street to Union Street by replacing aging streets and sidewalks. The portion unveiled today runs east to west on University Avenue from Goodman Street to Union Street, and north to south on Goodman Street from Village Gates to the Rochester Museum and Science Center.

Empire State Games to Return

Rochester, N.Y. – Michael G. Carey, son of Governor Hugh Carey, today joined a host of athletes, sports dignitaries, and local elected officials to announce plans to bring back the Empire State Games through the creation of a new not-for-profit foundation, the Empire State Sports Foundation. The private foundation has taken over the planning, promotion and organization of the summer games thanks to a recent agreement signed with the New York State Parks Department.

 

Carey, who will serve as president of the foundation’s Board of Governors, detailed the significant progress being made to permanently bring back the summer games, including a plan to reunify the two games under the banner of the Empire State Games and the Empire State Sports Foundation.

Rochester Silver Works Celebrate (88+) 1 Year Anniversary

On Wednesday, I had the privilege to speak at the (88+) 1 Year Anniversary celebration at Rochester Silver Works, LLC. RSW, formerly an Eastman Kodak company manufacturing department, became a private company as of October, 2011. RSW retained ALL 55 highly skilled former Kodak employees, along with their expertise, the manufacturing site and all equipment. The facility covers over 10 square acres of land with full capabilities to collect, refine and manufacture silver scrap to high purity silver and silver based chemicals. Gates-Chili Volleyball Teams Goes Pink in Fight Against Cancer

On Tuesday night, October 2nd, I had the privilege to make remarks prior to the Gates-Chili girls volleyball game against Greece Arcadia. The team wore pink jerseys as a part of their 'Dig Pink' fund raiser for cancer awareness.

Nazareth Opens Peckham Hall

On Thursday afternoon, I had the privilege to attend the grand opening ceremony for Peckham Hall on the campus of Nazareth College in Pittsford. Peckham Hall will serve as the Integrated Center for Math and Science. The $30 million dollar building features classroom and lab lecture rooms with modern technology and 20 labs to serve science, math, and computing areas of studies.

2012 Dictionary Project Wraps Up

Earlier this morning, I had the privilege to distribute new dictionaries to third grade students at Craig Hill Elementary School in Greece. This was the 11th and final school, in the Hilton and Greece School Districts, to receive new dictionaries this school year. Thank you to the Rotary Clubs of Hilton and Greece for their support in this project once again. Best wishes to all of our students for a successful 2012-2013 school year!

Dictionary Project Continues in Hilton

Earlier this morning, I had the privilege to visit with students at two schools in Hilton, Village Elementary School and St. Paul Lutheran School to continue the 2012 Dictionary Project with the Rotary Clubs of Hilton and Greece. We wrap up the dictionary project for this year  tomorrow when we visit Craig Hill Elementary School in Greece.

Hillside Family of Agencies Unveils Renovated Monroe Avenue Campus

On Friday, I had the privilege to speak at a ceremony in which Hillside Family of Agencies unveiled it's $22 million renovated Monroe Avenue campus. Funding for the renovation was raised from private donors and funders and through numerous campaign over more then a decade. Renovations include six renovated residential buildings, the new Horton Family Center, a renovated Eastman Hall, a new common area, a new baseball field, track and playground, and one of the cottages now allows for residential services for eight youth with developmental disabilities. Radisson Hotel Cuts Ribbon on Renovations

This afternoon, I had the privilege to take part in the ribbon cutting ceremony at the Radisson Rochester Riverside Hotel. Originally opened in 1969, more than $3.5 million has been invested over the last three years in renovating and upgrading guest rooms, the fitness center, and all of the meeting spaces.

On Thursday morning, September 19th, I continued my 2012 Dictionary Project, in partnership with the Rotary Clubs of Greece and Hilton. Here I am with Mr. Pat Billone, a teacher at West Ridge Elementary School in Greece, and some of his students. Dictionary Project With Longridge Elementary School

Third grade students at Longridge Elementary school in Greece received their new dictionaries on Tuesday, September 18th. In addition to members of the Greece Rotary, Town of Greece Police Chief Todd Baxter, Greece Central School District Superintendent Barbara Deane-Williams, and Greece Chamber of Commerce President Jodie Perry also helped distribute dictionaries!

New Housing/Commercial Space at 44 Exchange Blvd.

This morning, I had the privilege to take part in the ribbon cutting ceremony to unveil new commercial and residential property at 44 Exchange Blvd downtown. Funding from Restore NY went to the rehabilitation of the building. The total cost of the project was $6 million. There are 24 total apartments and one to two floors of commercial space. Many of the building's 1950s-era design features have been restored or duplicated.

Brockport Fire Department 9/11 Ceremony

On Tuesday, night, September 11th, the Brockport Fire Department held their annual vigil to remember the victims of the terrorist attacks 11 years ago. Brockport FD has held this vigil each year since the attacks. The vigil included a display of firefighters' helmets, a display of American flags, and the Brockport 9/11 Memorial.

Ridge Road Fire District 9/11 Ceremony

On Tuesday morning, September 11th, I had the honor to attend the Ridge Road Fire District's Remembrance Ceremony for the victims of the terrorist attacks 11 years ago today. A wreath was planted at the Ridge Road Fire District 9/11 Memorial, flags were lowered to half-staff, and a bell was rung at 8:46 a.m., which marks the time that the first plane hit the World Trade Center on 9/11/01.

Tap & Table Holds Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony

Last Thursday, I had the privilege to speak the ribbon cutting ceremony for Tap & Table. Tap & Table is a restaurant located at Corn Hill Landing. It is open Mondays-Saturdays from 11:30 a.m. until 2:00 a.m. and on Sundays from 4:00 p.m. until Midnight. It serves lunch, dinner, coffee, and drinks. First Day of School

Today, many of our students across the area started the 2012-2013 school year. I had the privilege to join the students, faculty, and staff at Flower City School #54 in the city for their first day of school! Students had the opportunity to meet City of Rochester School District Superintendent Bolgen Vargas and take part in activities on The Green Machine. The Green Machine is a solar powered research vehicle, designed by Monroe #1 BOCES Technology Service. It is an interactive mobile science labratory that provides state-of-the-art technology in a curriculum-rich environment. It includes five workstations (CSI, Ecology, Geography, Zoology, and Medical), which students are assigned to work together in a specified scenario to solve a mystery.

Genesee Brew House Ribbon Cutting

On Friday afternoon, I had the privilege to attend the ribbon-cutting ceremony at the Genesee Brew House. The Brew House will open this upcoming weekend, on Saturday, September 8. The Brew House features an exhibit gallery, a pilot brewery which will be open from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. daily, and a pub-style restaurant, which is also open from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. daily.
