On Memorial Day, I joined members of the Greece Post 468 American Legion at their remembrance ceremony. This was a moving tribute that paid homage to those who died in the name freedom and liberty. We're so fortunate to have a active and dedicated American Legion Post in the Town of Greece.
I was honored to join my colleagues in government and residents from the Town of Gates at the annual Memorial Day ceremony at Gates Town Hall. This was a wonderful community ceremony that paid tribute to our nation's veterans, active troops and those who died in combat. Thanks to all who took time out of their day to honor our nation's heroes.
This morning, I joined Larry Glazer, Bob Morgan and my colleagues in government for the start of construction on the Tower at Midtown Rising. This project is a great example of State and Local government working with private investors for the betterment of our community. This project will help bring the excitement back to Downtown Rochester, just like Midtown Mall did during its glory years!
Crime Stoppers of Rochester recently donated to the Rochester Police Department, Monroe County Sheriff's Office and the Greece Police Department to assist with funding for each department's K-9 Units. Many thanks to Crime Stoppers for their assistance with law enforcement in our community and for giving back in an effort to help fight crime!
State Senator Joe Robach is proud to announce the induction of John Foy, an active member in the Rochester veteran community, to the New York State Senate Veterans Hall of Fame on Tuesday, May 20. This honor is designed to pay tribute to New Yorkers whose gallantry in the U.S. Armed Forces is complimented by their service to the community and their accomplishments as a civilian.
I was pleased to join scouts and parents from Tay House Boy Scout Troop 19 in celebrating its 95th anniversary. Tay House Troop 19 prides itself on being entirely run by the scouts and still follows many of the same principles established by the founding troops in 1919. Congratulations on 95 great years, here's to 95 more!
I recently joined the Rochester community at the annual NAMIWalks fundraiser at Village Gate. NAMIWalks is the areas largest mental health fundraising effort, raising over $100,000 this year alone. The YMCA of Greater Rochester, MVP Healthcare and LifeSpan of Rochester have teamed up to unveil the MVP Healthcare Living Well Center at the Westside YMCA in Gates. This is the second YMCA community center for seniors in the Rochester area.
I had a great time reading "House Mouse Senate Mouse" to 2nd and 3rd grade students at Walt Disney Elementary School in the Town of Gates this afternoon. The students enjoyed the book and had some great questions about government and my job as a State Senator. Thanks to the Gates Chili School District and the Rochester Regional Library Council for the invitation!
Every Mother's Day, the Breast Cancer Coalition of Rochester hosts a Pink Ribbon Run and Walk fundraiser. Every dollar raised at this great event stays in the Rochester community to help those impacted by breast cancer. This year's run/walk was the most successful yet, raising over $175,000 and a record number of participants! I was pleased to be there to support the BCCR and everyone who has been touched by breast cancer.
The Genesee Valley Detachment of the Marine Corps League recently celebrated its 50th Anniversary. I was pleased to present the members with an official proclamation from the New York State Senate. Congratulations on 50 great years, Semper Fi!
I was honored to receive the Bill Sears Legislator of the Year Award from the New York State Snowmobile Association at their recent educational forum. As a major state tourism attraction, the dedicated members of the NYSSA work towards improving trails, facilities and services for snowmobilers throughout New York. Whether it's riding my Harley, a snowmobile or an ATV, I love 'em all!
I was honored to join members of the Vietnam Veterans of American Chapter 20 at their annual dinner over the weekend. VVA Chapter 20 is one of the most active Vietnam-era veterans groups, with members who are passionate about helping fellow Vietnam veterans.
A little rain didn't stop Brighton Little League from having their opening day parade and ceremony on Saturday afternoon. Brighton Little League not only teaches the skills of baseball, but promotes teamwork and sportsmanship on and off the field. In 1974, Andrew Langston had a vision of creating a radio station that would be for the people and connect with the community. It is with this vision that 103.9 WDKX was born. On Saturday evening, WDKX celebrated its 40th Anniversary with performances by national recording artists Sevyn Streeter and Chrisette Michele, as well as many talented local recording artists.
Located at 289 Gregory Street, Abode Furniture held a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the opening of their new store in the Southwedge area of the City of Rochester. Abode offers a variety of affordable household items from local, national and vintage designers.

AT&T recently donated $30,000 the Villa of Hope to support the Villa's Juvenile Reporting Center program. This generous donation brought together two great organizations, AT&T and the Villa of Hope! Thanks to both for all that they do for our community.
I hosted a public forum on heroin and opioid addiction with my colleagues in the State Legislature Senator Phil Boyle and Assemblyman Mark Johns. We heard compelling testimony from drug addiction and prevention experts, law enforcement professionals and families who have been touched by addiction. We are committed to ending this growing problem that has taken countless lives across New York State. My sincere thanks to everyone who shared their stories and to those who attended today.
