On Friday, January 28th, I had the opportunity to attend a retirement party for Gwen Darrisaw, who is retiring after 20 years with the County of Monroe and CWA 381. During the party, I presented Gwen with a certificate in honor of her service to our community.
Senator Robach meets with Dr. Nirav Shah, who was recently appointed as Commissioner of the New York State Department of Health. Dr. Shah and Senator Robach discussed the importance of an efficient health care model.
Recently, Senator Robach attended an Eagle Scout Court of Honor Ceremony for Troop 152 in Brighton. Two members of the troop received their Eagle Scout badge, William J. Devos and Nicholas Sirotenko. Both are pictured with Senator Robach.
On Monday, January 17th, the Maplewood YMCA held a ribbon-cutting ceremony to mark the completion of renovations which totaled $5 million dollars, which added 16,000 square feet of space. Aquinas Institute and Prime Time Brass teamed up to raise funds for Honor Flight Rochester, a program which transports local WWII veterans by plane to view the WWII Memorial in Washington, D.C. The resulting benefit concert took place at Aquinas on Saturday, January 15, 2011, featuring a mix of jazz, big band and patriotic music performed by Prime Time Brass, the Aquinas Jazz Ensemble, national recording artist Joe Brucato, the Ghost Riders and the Image City Sound Chorus of Sweet Adelines International.
On the heels of last Wednesday's State of the State address, I had the opportunity to catch up with Lieutenant Governor Bob Duffy in the Senate Chamber. I look forward to working with the new administration on capping property taxes, reducing state spending, reforming State government, and getting our State back on the right track.
On Monday, January 3rd, Verizon Wireless opened its new location on Jefferson Road. During the ceremony, The Salvation Army Rochester Area Services was awarded a HopeLine Grant from Verizon Wireless, which will benefit the Army’s Hope House Women’s Shelter. The $10,000 grant will be used to provide case management services to homeless women impacted by domestic violence
“About 85 percent of the women who come to Hope House are dealing with issues of domestic violence,” Said Major James Cocker, Rochester area coordinator for The Salvation Army. “We are grateful for this grant, as it will help us provide the much needed support the women in our shelter need to become self-sufficient.”
On Wednesday, December 22nd, Senator Robach had the privilege to donate all of the winter articles of clothing that were donated to the "From One Closet to Another" Coats for Kids Winter Clothes Drive. Clothing was donated to the Greece Ecumenical Clothes Closet. I thank everyone for their tremendous support and generosity throughout the past three weeks, and for making this project so successful! On Saturday, December 18th, WDKX 103.9 FM brought Christmas downtown during its live broadcast from the Monroe County Office Building. During the broadcast, winter coats were given away to children in the Rochester area. Santa Claus and other guests also stopped by the broadcast to visit with those in attendance.
On Friday, December 17th, students at Brookside Elementary School in Greece donated hats, mittens, and other winter articles of clothing to Senator Robach's "From One Closet to Another" Coats for Kids Clothes Drive. Senator Robach is pictured with fourth and fifth graders of the student council. Third graders were not able to attend this morning's event due to a field trip. Articles of clothing will be delivered to the Greece Ecumenical Clothes Closet next week.
On Wednesday, December 15th, the Town of Greece held its annual Seniors Christmas Party at the Town Community and Senior Center. Senator Robach spoke with residents prior to lunch. Also, Santa Claus was the special guest at the luncheon, which featured a sing-a-long. Pictured with Senator Robach and Santa Claus is Town of Greece Supervisor John Auberger. On Friday, December 10th, Senator Robach attended, and spoke at, Thomas Jefferson High School's "Student Anthology Publication Party". This was presented by Writers & Books and the Academy of Performing and Visual Arts at TJHS. Forty students attended the event which also included six performers.

On Friday, December 10th, 2010, Senator Robach attended a ceremony to mark the opening of Literacy Volunteers of Rochester's new location. Earlier this year, LVR moved their offices to 1600 South Avenue at Wolk Hall. The new offices give LVR the opportunity to expand programs and services. On Thursday, December 9th, I spoke to 7th and 8th grade students at Northeast College Preparatory School in Rochester. The students, who are currently taking Participation in Government classes, heard about New York State government, my role as a New York State Senator, and how a bill becomes a law. Last Wednesday, December 1st, Senator Robach presented a New York State resolution to Wanda Kudaj, Nurse Manager at Jewish Home of Rochester. Every year, the New York Association of Home & Services for the Aging (NYAHSA) awards professionals who have been nominated by their peers, supervisors, and management personnel. Picture with... On Friday, December 3rd, Geri Spino, president of the Scott Spino Foundation Inc. donated 24 winter coats and 40 pairs of winter mittens as a part of Senator Robach's Coats for Kids Clothes Drive. On Tuesday, November 23rd, Senator Robach had lunch with, and spoke to, students at Rochester Academy Charter School. The students are members of the RACS Student Government Club. The topic of the lunchtime discussion was patriotism. For more information on RACS, visit www.rochester-academy.org.
