Senator Robach Takes Part in Puerto Rican Parade

On Saturday, July 31, Senator Robach took part in the Puerto Rican Parade in downtown Rochester. The parade started at Liberty Pole Way and ended at Frontier Field, the site of the Puerto Rican Festival, which ran from July 30th until August 1st. Senator Robach Visits Chil Ave. Business Alliance Festival

Bagel Bin Hosts Book Signing and Jewelry Show

Senator Robach joins the women of Katie Shirley's Closet. Stephanie Shirley, the mother of one of the five "Fairport Angels" who died in a car accident in 2009, started the business as a tribute to her daughter, Katie. The group donates procees from their jewelry sales to the Daystar Program for Medically Fragile Infants.

Senator Robach Helps Unveil Max Lill Drive

On Friday, July 23, Senator Robach helped dedicate Max Lill Drive, which will run from South Avenue to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Highland Park. James "Max" Lill died last month at age 64. Lill was instrumental in the construction of the nationally renowned Memorial. The memorial was opened to the public on September 8, 1996.

On Thursday, July 22, Senator Robach welcomed residents and their guests to the Town of Greece Summer Picnic for Seniors. The annual event was held at Greece Town Hall. Senator Robach provided remarks to the crowd prior to lunch and thanked them for all that they do for the Town of Greece. Following lunch, seniors were treated to entertainment by Johnny Matt Band.

Senator Robach Spends Annual Reading Day at the Harley School

On Tuesday, July 20, Senator Robach took part in 'Annual Reading Day' at the Harley School. Horizons at Harley is a summer Student Enrichment Program that provides low-income Rochester children with a unique combination of academic, social, cultural, wellness, and recreational learning experiences that support their success in school and in life. One hundred twenty five children in grades K-8 attend Horizons each summer for six weeks at The Harley School.

Senator Robach Helps Break Ground on New Rochester EOC Center

Senator Robach, on Thursday, July 8, helped break ground on the new Rochester Educational Opportunity Center, located at 161 Chestnut Street in downtown Rochester. REOC provides career training and college-readiness courses to 1,500 local residents each year. Affiliated with the State University College at Brockport, the center is one of 10 such programs in the SUNY system. The building is expected to be ready for use by late 2011. Youth as Resources 2010 Summer Grant Cycle Kick-off

On Saturday, June 19, Senator Robach joined Monroe County Executive Maggie Brooks and the Youth as Resources Program for its 2010 Summer Grant Cycle Kick-off Celebration.

This year, 12 groups will receive grants for projects that will take place throughout the summer.

YAR is a youth philanthropy program of the Rochester-Monroe County Youth Bureau that offers grants of up to $1,000 for youth-planned and implemented community service and service learning projects.

USS Liberty Memorial Unveiled

The USS Liberty Memorial at Ontario Beach Park was unveiled on Saturday, June 12. Senator Robach provided remarks prior to the unveiling.

 

The memorial is located on the beach between Lake Ontario and the Genesee River, which is north of the Dentzel Menagerie Carousel in Charlotte.

 

On June 8, 1967, the USS Liberty was struck by jet fighter aircraft and motor torpedo boats in international waters north of the Sinai Peninsula. Of the 294 men on the ship, 170 were wounded and 34 perished as a result of the attack.
