Pearl Harbor Commemoration Service

Our nation commemorated the 72nd anniversary of the bombing of Pearl Harbor on Saturday. I was honored to join local veterans, Veteran Organizations and three local Pearl Harbor survivors at the Rochester Yacht Club to remember those who died during this horrific attack on our nation 72 years ago. As a nation, we will never forget those who died, and those who survived, on that day and all that they have done for our freedom.

Career Fair for Business & Technical Professionals

Over 550 people came out to the Career Fair for Business & Technical Professionals at Monroe Community College yesterday afternoon. It was a great opportunity for those looking for a new job or career change to meet face-to-face with potential employers to see what they are looking for in new employees. Wilson Magnet IB Induction Ceremony

I was pleased to recognize students being inducted in to Wilson Magnet's International Baccalaureate program last night. This great program encourages critical analysis, research skills and service as part of the learning process, and pushes students to get the most out of themselves and their education. Senator Robach Presents Vietnam Veteran with Service Medals

Congratulations to Thomas Demond for receiving the New York State Medal of Merit and the New York State Conspicuous Service Star for his service to our nation during the Vietnam War. I was honored to present Tom with both of these medals at the Baber AME Church on Sunday morning. Tom continues to serve our nation and community as Commander of the Pennington-Moye VFW Post 9251. Once again, congratulations Tom and thank you for your service to our great nation.

Family Advocates of Heritage Christian Services Legislative Breakfast

I was pleased to join my colleagues in government and families and advocates of people with developmental disabilities at the annual Family Advocates Legislative Breakfast. We heard from many parents and caretakers of people with disabilities about the battle they fight every day to provide care to their loved ones. I know I will certainly continue to fight for people with developmental disabilities in Albany.

Port of Rochester Marina Groundbreaking

With a cold breeze coming off of Lake Ontario, I joined Mayor Tom Richards and other colleagues in government to break ground at the Port of Rochester Marina project in the Charlotte community. This is an exciting project that will attract people from throughout our community to the Charlotte area. As a native of Charlotte, I know what a great community it is, and all that it has to offer for residents and visitors alike. Many thanks to all who have helped to make this project a reality.

Congratulations to the University Preparatory Charter School Modified Football team on their undefeated season. I recently joined the team to celebrate their great season with a pizza party. These young men not only succeeded on the football field, they truly epitomize the term student-athlete with their dedication in the classroom. These young men are role models for their peers and fellow students throughout our community.

Visit to Neil Armstrong Elementary School

Yesterday afternoon, I had the pleasure of speaking to the 5th grade of Neil Armstrong Elementary School in the Town of Gates about the role of State Government and my job as a State Senator. I was so impressed with the attentiveness of the students and all the great questions they had for me. Thanks to Principal McGary and  Mr. Antinelli for the invitation.

Holy Rosary Apartments Ribbon Cutting

I was pleased to join Providence Housing Development and members of our community at the ribbon cutting for the new apartment complex at the former Holy Rosary parish campus in the City of Rochester. This new affordable rental housing complex offers 35 apartments on the Holy Rosary campus and 25 newly constructed single-family homes in the Edgerton neighborhood. This truly is a great project for our community and the Edgerton neighborhood.

Visit to Edison Tech

I had the opportunity to speak to Participation in Government classes at Edison Tech this morning. This was a great chance for me to talk about the role of government, and the importance of voter participation and getting involved in the community. Brian K. Schramm Post Office Dedication

I was honored to join Assemblyman Bill Reilich and members of our community this afternoon at the dedication of the Brian K. Schramm Post Office Building in the Town of Greece. Brian was a lifelong Greece resident and graduate of Greece Olympia High School. Upon high school graduation, Brian enlisted in the United State Marine Corps to serve our great nation. Brian was tragically taken from us on October 15, 2004 while serving his second tour of duty in Iraq.

This post office building will remind us of the sacrifice Brian made for our country, and we are forever grateful for his dedication and service to our nation.

St. John Fisher College Nursing Simulation Center Ribbon Cutting

The St. John Fisher College Wegmans School of Nursing held a ribbon cutting for its new Simulation Center this afternoon. This new facility will allow SJFC nursing students to practice patient treatment on a simulated patient, while giving them hands-on experience in providing patient care. I was pleased to be able to help secure funding for this new facility, which will serve as yet another healthcare asset to the Rochester community.

Honor Flight Mission 32 - October 20, 2013

Yesterday afternoon, I had the privilege of welcoming our veteran's home from the mission of 2013. With the 45 returning veterans on Sunday morning, Honor Flight Rochester has now sent 1,493 veterans to Washington, D.C. for an Honor Flight mission. Thanks to all who have volunteered their time or have helped Honor Flight over the years.

Empire State Games for the Physically Challenged

I had the pleasure of participating in this morning's opening ceremony for the Empire State Games for the Physically Challenged at SUNY Brockport. This great event provides physically challenged students with the opportunity to compete in athletic events while having fun doing it. October is Domestic Violence Awareness month, and on Saturday morning I joined Alternatives for Battered Women at their Walk a Mile in Her Shoes event at Ontario Beach Park. This great event helps raise money for domestic violence victims assistance and educates people about the seriousness of domestic violence. Thanks to all who participated and gave to this event.

Elizabeth Wende Breast Care Ribbon Cutting

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, so it was fitting that the Elizabeth Wende Breast Care facility held its ribbon cutting for its new Greece location this afternoon. I was honored to be able to help welcome this great healthcare center to the Town of Greece.

As a leader in breast imaging and breast cancer diagnosis, this new facility will provide greater access to experience professionals for those in need. Thank you for all you do and best of luck at your new location.

Walk to Defeat ALS

This weekend, I joined hundreds at the Walk to Defeat ALS at Ontario Beach Park. Every 90 minutes, someone is diagnosed with ALS, or Lou Gehrig's disease. This walk helped to raise money for the ALS Association in an effort to help find a cure for this horrible disease.
