I had the pleasure of meeting with Boy Scouts Luke Basler, Graham Trolley, Marshall Ireland and Nash Dickason from Boy Scout Troop 77 in Brighton. They had some great questions for me about my job in the State Senate and the inner-workings of State Government, and were able to receive a Merit Badge for it! Great job guys, keep up the good work and dedication to scouting!
I had a great meeting with dozens of local and state Highway Superintendents yesterday afternoon in Albany. These hard working men and women are dedicated to providing the best roads and highways for New York State travelers. I look forward to working with them more in my role as Senate Transportation Committee Chairman. Thanks for making the trip to Albany!

I was pleased to join officials from the City of Rochester and New York State yesterday as we cut the ribbon on Providence Housing's latest development, Son House Apartments on Joseph Avenue. Son House Apartments offer 21 affordable one-bedroom apartments with nearby access to the RGRTA bus line and retail shopping.
As part of an ongoing initiative, students at Autumn Lane Elementary School in the Town of Greece will now have access to 30 iPads in the school's library. This new technology will help them prepare for testing and to meet district technology standards. I'm pleased to help secure funding for this project that will benefit all K-5 students in the Greece Central School District by providing them access to new technology. I had a great time today participating in Zumba Gold at Episcopal SeniorLife Communities Beatrice Place. It was nice seeing so many seniors staying active and getting fit, while enjoying each others company. AT&T Wireless recently opened its newest location in the Dewey Avenue Corridor in the Town of Greece. This is the latest store to open in the revitalized Dewey Corridor, it's great to see this part of Greece buzzing once again.
On Saturday morning, I was excited to join the Rochester community at the grand opening of the newest Fleet Feet Sports location at the Culver Road Armory. This is just the latest addition in the ongoing transformation of the Culver Road Armory, and is a great fit for the community. It was great to go back to my Alma Mater, Holy Cross School, to help them kickoff their anti-bullying assembly today. There were a few great presentations by the students, and a great message of anti-bullying. Many thanks for inviting me to help kickoff this event!

I was honored to join the Rochester community for the 29th annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Celebration. Dr. King inspired change in our nation by leading the Civil Rights movement. Even after his untimely death, at just 39 years old, Dr. King's legacy and vision carries on. Many thanks to the Great Rochester MLK JR. Commission for planning and hosting this annual event.

I was pleased to join my colleagues in State government and local leaders today in supporting tax reforms proposed by Governor Cuomo at last week's State of the State address. These reforms will provide needed tax relief for hardworking families, and will help attract more businesses and create more jobs for Upstate New York. This is real change that will help the New York economy continue on its path to recovery.
I recently had the privilege of joining my colleagues in the State Legislature and Service-Connected Disabled Veterans at the NY Jobs for Heroes Program press conference. This program will create a state contract preference for service-connected disabled veteran owned small businesses in New York State. We are forever grateful for the service and sacrifice of our veterans, providing them with this opportunity is commonsense.
I'm pleased to say we had another successful electronics recycling event at the Monroe County Ecopark over the weekend. Over 700 cars came through to drop off their old TVs, VCRs, computers, laptops and other unused electronics to be properly disposed of. Thanks to Time Warner Cable, Sunnking Electronics, Waste Management and Monroe County for partnering with me on this great event. And thanks to Boy Scout Troop 94 from the Town of Gates for all their help throughout the day.
As we welcome in 2014 with excitement and anticipation, I'd like to take a minute to look back at 2013. I was fortunate to meet a lot of wonderful people and go to a lot of great events throughout the year. Thanks to everyone who helped make it a great year for the Rochester community. Here's to an even better 2014!
Students at English Village Elementary School showed their holiday spirit by donating over 100 pairs of children's pajamas to the Greece Clothes Closet. These pajamas will go to less-fortunate children in our community. Even at such a young age, these students know the importance of giving back to our community. Great job, and thanks to all who helped organize this clothing drive!
WDKX recently held its Bringing Christmas Downtown at the Salem United Church of Christ on Bittner Street in Downtown Rochester. I was pleased to support this event by collecting winter coats, gloves and hats to be donated to needy children. Thanks to everyone at WDKX for planning this event and giving back to our community.
