Charlotte-Genesee Lighthouse Historical Society Celebrates 40 Years!

I recently joined members of the Charlotte-Genesee Lighthouse Historical Society at their 40th Anniversary luncheon. I was pleased to host students from my Alma Mater, SUNY Brockport, this afternoon to discuss the 2014 State Budget and education funding. Boy Scout Troop 77 Visits

I had the pleasure of meeting with Boy Scouts Luke Basler, Graham Trolley, Marshall Ireland and Nash Dickason from Boy Scout Troop 77 in Brighton. They had some great questions for me about my job in the State Senate and the inner-workings of State Government, and were able to receive a Merit Badge for it! Great job guys, keep up the good work and dedication to scouting!

Meeting with Local Highway Superintendents

I had a great meeting with dozens of local and state Highway Superintendents yesterday afternoon in Albany. These hard working men and women are dedicated to providing the best roads and highways for New York State travelers. Chelsy's Place Opens in the City of Rochester

Congratulations to Jose and Wendy Navedo, and everyone at Chelsy's Place on their grand opening over the weekend. Chelsy's offers Spanish and American cuisine, and is open from 6:00 a.m. - 9:00 p.m. 7 days a week! The Navedo's put a lot of sweat and equity in to making this a great restaurant for all to enjoy. Ribbon Cutting at Son House Apartments

I was pleased to join officials from the City of Rochester and New York State yesterday as we cut the ribbon on Providence Housing's latest development, Son House Apartments on Joseph Avenue. Son House Apartments offer 21 affordable one-bedroom apartments with nearby access to the RGRTA bus line and retail shopping.

Autumn Lane Elementary School gets iPads

As part of an ongoing initiative, students at Autumn Lane Elementary School in the Town of Greece will now have access to 30 iPads in the school's library. This new technology will help them prepare for testing and to meet district technology standards. I'm pleased to help secure funding for this project that will benefit all K-5 students in the Greece Central School District by providing them access to new technology. Staying Fit at Beatrice Place

I had a great time today participating in Zumba Gold at Episcopal SeniorLife Communities Beatrice Place. It was nice seeing so many seniors staying active and getting fit, while enjoying each others company. Fleet Feet Opens at the Culver Road Armory

On Saturday morning, I was excited to join the Rochester community at the grand opening of the newest Fleet Feet Sports location at the Culver Road Armory. This is just the latest addition in the ongoing transformation of the Culver Road Armory, and is a great fit for the community. 29th Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Service

I was honored to join the Rochester community for the 29th annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Celebration. Dr. King inspired change in our nation by leading the Civil Rights movement. Even after his untimely death, at just 39 years old, Dr. King's legacy and vision carries on. Many thanks to the Great Rochester MLK JR. Commission for planning and hosting this annual event.

New York State Tax Reform Press Conference

I was pleased to join my colleagues in State government and local leaders today in supporting tax reforms proposed by Governor Cuomo at last week's State of the State address. These reforms will provide needed tax relief for hardworking families, and will help attract more businesses and create more jobs for Upstate New York. This is real change that will help the New York economy continue on its path to recovery.

I recently had the privilege of joining my colleagues in the State Legislature and Service-Connected Disabled Veterans at the NY Jobs for Heroes Program press conference. This program will create a state contract preference for service-connected disabled veteran owned small businesses in New York State. We are forever grateful for the service and sacrifice of our veterans, providing them with this opportunity is commonsense.
