On Friday, September 9th, Senator Robach had the opportunity to attend, and speak at, the Mildred Johnson Estates Phase II ribbon cutting ceremony. The event celebrated the new construction of 21 3-bedroom, single family homes on formerly vacant lots owned by the City of Rochester. Phase II is modeled on the success of Mildred Johnson Estates Phase I, which included 23 single family homes and was completed in 2008. All of the 21 new homes will be affordable to families earning 50% or less of the area median income. Together, Phase I and Phase II represent a 10 million dollar investment in the neighborhood.
On Thursday evening, I had the privilege to attend the Greece Chamber of Commerce Civic Awards Banquet. This dinner honored business professionals and outstanding individuals in the Greece Community. Last week, I had the privilege to attend a ground breaking ceremony for the newest Habitat for Humanity House. This house will be built by, and sponsored by, ESL. bout 400 ESL employees will volunteer 3,200 hours on the home's construction, which is expected to take 11 weeks. The house is located in Rochester's JOSANA neighborhood.
I was pleased to join officials from the City of Rochester, Monroe County and area developers to announce details about the redevelopment of the historic Bevier Building in downtown Rochester. I have been to countless groundbreakings and ribbon cuttings, but this was my first Tape and Spackling ceremony! When completed, this project will feature office space and 15 loft-style apartments, and is the latest example of the revitalization of downtown Rochester!
