On Thursday, May 19th, I had the opportunity to attend, and speak at, a wall raising ceremony for the new Erie Harbor apartment building that is currently under construction on Mt. Hope Avenue. On Friday, July 15th, I had the opportunity to speak at, and participate in, a ground breaking ceremony at the future site of the Paul Wolk Common Apartments on State Street in Rochester. The new Wolk Commons is an $8.5 million project that will create 45 mixed-use apartments, most of them for people with mental disabilities. Paul Wolk Commons is expected to open in Spring 2012.
On Friday, September 9th, Senator Robach had the opportunity to attend, and speak at, the Mildred Johnson Estates Phase II ribbon cutting ceremony. The event celebrated the new construction of 21 3-bedroom, single family homes on formerly vacant lots owned by the City of Rochester. Phase II is modeled on the success of Mildred Johnson Estates Phase I, which included 23 single family homes and was completed in 2008. All of the 21 new homes will be affordable to families earning 50% or less of the area median income. Together, Phase I and Phase II represent a 10 million dollar investment in the neighborhood.
On Monday, September 19th, Senator Robach spoke at, and took part in, a ribbon-cutting ceremony at Annex The Mills at High Falls. Construction on the project started in April 2010, and was completed in July. The total cost of the project was $7.5 million. The buildings, located on State Street in downtown Rochester are anticipated to be fully occupied by the end of this year. On Thursday, I spoke at a cermeony to announce the renovation of the Academy Building downtown. The $5.8 million dollar project will transform the building into commercial and residential space. An $800,000 grant from the Restore New York fund was secured for this project. Located at 13 Fitzhugh Street, the building housed Rochester's first high school.
The new Café has doubled in size - from 4,472 square feet to over 9,000 square feet - to match the expanding size of the new Hospital that will be complete in 2014. The Café serves approximately 1,100 meals per day, servicing nearly 2,600 Unity employees on the Hospital campus.
This new bistro-style Café was created for the comfort and enjoyment of employees as visitors who need a comfortable space while waiting or in the course of visiting friends and loved ones.
Recently, I had the opportunity to take a tour and see the renovation project for Marketview Heights. Marketview Heights Association (MHA) is a not-for-profit community service organization committed to improving the quality of life within northeast Rochester through underscoring the need for decent housing that is affordable to low and moderate income people. MHA is a HUD approved counseling agency providing Home buyer Counseling and Education for first time home buyers, Home ownership Counseling and Education, and Foreclosure Prevention Services. Earlier this afternoon, I had the privilege to take part in a ground-breaking ceremony to kick off a $5.5 million redevelopment plan on Genesee Street in Rochester. Brooks Court will soon be the home of new single-family 1 1/2 - 2 story homes. These homes will have individual garages, front porches, and vinyl siding. They are estimated to be priced between $150,000 and $180,000. The homes are scheduled to be ready for occupancy in late fall. Earlier this afternoon, I had the privilege to speak at, and help cut the ribbon at, the grand opening ceremony for Erie Harbor Waterfront Apartments and Townhomes. Located on Mt. Hope Avenue, Erie Harbor is the newest urban living community unveiled by Conifer Realty. It has 131 appointed and designed apartments and townhomes, which include 28 unique floorplans. Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today announced that construction will begin next month on a project to replace four bridge decks on Interstate 490 in Monroe County. The work is part of a $13.8 million contract funded through the NY Works program. The project meets the goals of Governor Cuomo’s Drivers First initiative to ensure that construction causes the least impact to motorists.
The bridges carry eastbound and westbound I-490 over Chili Center Coldwater Road (Route 386) in Chili and eastbound and westbound I-490 over Route 204 (Airport Expressway) in Gates.
