On Tuesday, March 6th, I had the pleasure of meeting with students from Rochester School for the Deaf.

Senator Robach Announces College Scholarships

Senator Joe Robach announced today that the New York Conference of Italian-American State Legislators is now accepting applications for four $1,500 scholarships to be awarded June 4th  at their Annual Legislative Conference Day.  Scholarship winners must be present to receive their awards.

 

“These scholarships will hopefully alleviate some of the burden of affording a higher education,” says Senator Robach.

East High School Girls Basketball Team Honored In Albany

On Wednesday, April 18th, I had the privlege to welcome the East High Girls Basketball Team to Albany as my guests for the day. East became the first Rochester City School District team to win a New York State Championship in Girls Basketball. The team was given a tour of the capital, and was in attendance for session. At the start of session, the New York State Legislature adopted a resolution honoring the achievements of the team this season, both on and off the court. Rochester Early College International High School Visits Albany

Rochester, NY - Earlier this week, I had the privilege to welcome students from the Rochester Early College International High School to Albany. Included are: Jamal Wilson, Precious Harris, Jordin Rickett, Jordan Jablonski, Howard Sturgis, Deirdra Hokins, Mercy Kirui, Kenrick Brown, and Mark Durkin.

Lend Us Your Story Video Contest Winners Announced

Recently, I had the privilege to attend, and speak at, the award ceremony for the "Lend Us Your Story Video Contest". This contest was for children under the age of 17, and required them to shoot short videos about why the Rochester Public Library is important to them. The grand prize winner received a Kindle Fire, and the second and third prize winners received a Kindle. Great work by all the kids involved!

Senate Passes Legislation Authorizing City of Rochester School District To Require Kindergarten Attendance

The New York State Senate passed legislation (S7519), sponsored by Senator Robach, which authorizes the City of Rochester School District to require minors age five to attend kindergarten.

“Rochester City School District currently provides children a full day kindergarten program in keeping with the numerous studies documenting the educational benefit and related long-term success of early quality education,” said Senator Joe Robach. “Unfortunately, too many kindergarten children are absent from school during the year, leaving them without the benefit of this educational experience.”

Greece Central School District Summer Reading Initiative

Earlier today, I had the opportunity to record a segment to discuss the summer reading initiative sponsored by Greece Central School District. Greece-Turning Pages encourages students from kindergarten through high school to take an active participation in summer reading to help them maintain their reading skills and return to school in the fall, ready to learn. School Modernization Program Kicks Off

(Rochester, N.Y.) - Earlier this afternoon, I had the privilege to take part in the Rochester City School District's ground breaking ceremony to launch the schools modernization program. Five schools will mark the beginning of a $325 million dollar construction program. Overall, 15 projects are to be completed by September 2015 as phase one of the schools modernization program. Today's ceremony was held at School No. 50, where work is underway.
