On Tuesday, November 22nd, I had the opportunity to speak at a ceremony to announce a $200,000 NYSERDA grant to Solid Cell, Inc for product development and manufacture of its proprietary modified planar solid oxide fuel cell technology. The grant specifically targets manufacture of the Company’s patent-pending ceramic interconnect. Solid Cell was one of only a handful of companies selected under the highly competitive “Environmentally Preferred Power Systems Technologies” program. Earlier this week, I had the privilege to speak at a press conference regarding grants totalling $1.4 million being awarded to 53 nonprofit lan trusts across the state. 10 grants totalling over $230,000 were awarded in the Western New York/Finger Lakes/Southern Tier category. This included the Genesee Land Trust, Genesee Valley Conservancy, and The Central and Western New York Chapter of The Nature Conservancy.
(Rochester, N.Y.) - Recently, I had the privilege to join R.I.T. president Bill Destler on a tour to see the progress of the Golisano Institute for Sustainability on the campus of R.I.T. I am teaming up with Sunnking, Waste Management, Monroe County, and Time Warner Cable for an electronics recycling event on Saturday, January 5th from 9:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Monroe County ecopark, 10 Avion Drive, Rochester, NY, 14624.
Most electronics are 100% recyclable. Common materials that are recovered through this process for reuse include glass, copper, aluminum, tin, steel, iron, plastic, silver, platinum, and gold.

On Saturday, I was joined by Scout Troop #94 of Gates and employees from Sunnking Electronics Recycling, as we took part in an electronics recycling event at the Monroe County Ecopark. I would like to personally thank both Cindy Jessop of Sunnking Electronics Recycling and Chris Mueller of Time Warner Cable for making this event possible. During the event, which ran from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m., we collected several thousand pounds of electronics from televisions, to old computers.
On Friday, I had the privilege to help plant a tree at Barnard Park in Greece to recognize Arbor Day. This year's Arbor Day Tree Planting ceremony was in honor of Richard Roberts, who formerly served as a member of the Town of Greece Tree Council.
On Saturday morning, the Town of Gates held its Earth Week Dedication Ceremony at Lions Park. This year, a tree was planted and dedicated to the Citizens of the Town of Gates from 1813 through 2013. The town is celebrating it's Bicentennial this year.
