This morning, I had the privilege to take part in the ribbon cutting ceremony to unveil new commercial and residential property at 44 Exchange Blvd downtown. Funding from Restore NY went to the rehabilitation of the building. The total cost of the project was $6 million. There are 24 total apartments and one to two floors of commercial space. Many of the building's 1950s-era design features have been restored or duplicated.
Earlier this afternoon, I had the privilege to speak at, and help cut the ribbon at, the grand opening ceremony for Erie Harbor Waterfront Apartments and Townhomes. Located on Mt. Hope Avenue, Erie Harbor is the newest urban living community unveiled by Conifer Realty. It has 131 appointed and designed apartments and townhomes, which include 28 unique floorplans. Recently, I had the privilege to attend, and speak at, the dedication ceremony for a Habitat for Humanity Home in Rochester. Seven churches were involved in fundraising and volunteering to build the home.
The churches involved in this home were Aldersgate United Methodist, Bethany Presbyterian, Greece Baptist, Greece United Methodist, Hope Lutheran, Messiah Lutheran and Trinity Episcopal, with help from Holy Cross Roman Catholic.
Earlier this afternoon, I had the privilege to join in the ground-breaking ceremony to mark the renovation of the Carriage Factory Apartments. These are located on Litchfield Street in Rochester. The building, which was built in 1910 and has been vacant for the past 25 years, was once home to Cunningham Carriage Factory. Once renovations are complete, it will include 71 units of affordable rental housing to accommodate people with special needs through DePaul Community Services Inc. Last week, I had the privilege to attend a ground breaking ceremony for the newest Habitat for Humanity House. This house will be built by, and sponsored by, ESL. bout 400 ESL employees will volunteer 3,200 hours on the home's construction, which is expected to take 11 weeks. The house is located in Rochester's JOSANA neighborhood.
Earlier today, I had the privilege to attend the groundbreaking ceremony for the University of Rochester's College Town. College Town will be located on the corner of Mt. Hope and Elmwood, and will offer 500,000 square feet for retail, a hotel, a parking garage with 1,500 spaces, restaurants, and housing on a 14-acre development. The project received a $4 million grant from the Finger Lakes Regional Economic Development Council.
I was pleased to join officials from the City of Rochester and New York State yesterday as we cut the ribbon on Providence Housing's latest development, Son House Apartments on Joseph Avenue. Son House Apartments offer 21 affordable one-bedroom apartments with nearby access to the RGRTA bus line and retail shopping.
I was pleased to join my colleagues in government and representatives from Geva Theatre this morning to announce Geva's agreement with Woodbury Place. Formerly Merkel Donohue warehouse, this building will be re-purposed to house actors and actresses performing at Geva Theatre. Located just steps away from Geva Theatre in the Washington Square neighborhood, this project enhance the revitalization of Downtown Rochester.
Congratulations to Sherman Hardy and his family on the completion of Hardy Park Apartments on Jefferson Avenue in the City of Rochester. Projects like this one are going to help the revitalization of the City of Rochester by providing new housing opportunities for city residents.
