Tay House Boy Scout Troop 19 Celebrates 95 Years!

I was pleased to join scouts and parents from Tay House Boy Scout Troop 19 in celebrating its 95th anniversary. Tay House Troop 19 prides itself on being entirely run by the scouts and still follows many of the same principles established by the founding troops in 1919. Congratulations on 95 great years, here's to 95 more!

RHYBL International Games 2014!

I helped the Rochester Hispanic Youth Baseball League open the International Games at a ceremony over the weekend. This tournament gave teams from RHYBL and the Charlotte Youth Athletic Association the opportunity to compete against teams from Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic. RHYBL is more than just a youth baseball league, they teach their players about commitment and respect, on the baseball diamond and in the classroom. Way to go RHYBL!

Summer of Opportunity Employment Program

Every summer the City of Rochester, Monroe County and RochesterWorks collaborate for the Summer of Opportunity Employment Program. This program provides summer employment for over 800 area youth, giving them hands-on learning experience and on the job training. I have been pleased to continually support the Summer of Opportunity Program by securing $300,000 in state aid to help fund the program. Many thanks to the City of Rochester, Monroe County, RochesterWorks and all of the organizations who participate every year!

Bivona Child Advocacy Center Breaks Ground

What an exciting day for Bivona Child Advocacy Center and its local partners as they broke ground on their new home at One Mt Hope Avenue in the City of Rochester. This is an incredible project that will renovate one of the oldest commercial buildings in our community, and will benefit everyone at Bivona and their partners. Congratulations and I can't wait to be back for the ribbon cutting!

Recognizing Kinship Caregivers

Today, I joined kinship caregivers and kinship advocates in announcing that September 2015 will be Kinship Care Month in New York. We are fortunate to live in a state that is among the leaders nationwide in recognizing kinship caregivers for stepping up to raise at-risk youth. I applaud all those who take the time to give New York's children the care, attention and love they need to become healthy adults.

IBERO American Action League Safe Summer Picnic

It was a beautiful day for the 20th annual IBERO American Action League Safe Summer Picnic at Seneca Park. I am proud to have supported IBERO for a number of years, and was humbled to receive recognition for that support. I hope everyone had a great day at the Safe Summer Picnic, and thanks to IBERO for all that they do for the Rochester community!
