Governor Encourages New York Employers to Take Advantage of Program and Urges Unemployed Youth to Get Involved



Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today announced that more than 120 businesses across the state have joined the New York Youth Works Program, creating 2,900 full and part-time job openings for young, at-risk New Yorkers.


Mylan Denerstein, Counsel to the Governor, and Alphonso David, Deputy Secretary for Civil Rights, today joined members of the Legislature and representatives from participating businesses to encourage additional youth and companies to take advantage of the program.

Meeting with YouthBuild Students

This week, I welcomed YouthBuild students to my office in Albany. The students are Isaiah Nesmith, Shlon James, Mubarak Bashir, Jasmine Cunico, Rahine Cotton, Adrienne Riley, Yvonne Vega, Mykel Wilder, Quenisha Jenkins, and Nate Gill.

March Against Violence

Recently, I had the privilege to take part in the March Against Violence. The march was organized by Bridges to Wellness, which is a community health initiative in northeast Rochester that engages residents to bring about positive changes to their community. The march was put on by Bonita Blocker, whose brother was murdered and Jesse Knoth, who is the reisdent organizer/youth coordinator for Bridges to Wellness.

Rochester Special Hockey Tournament

Rochester, NY - This past weekend, I had the privilege to meet with hockey players and their families, and speak with participants during the Rochester Special Hockey Tournament at The Sports Center at MCC. Congratulations to all of the participants and a job well done and keep up the great work on and off the ice!

East High School Girls Basketball Team Honored In Albany

On Wednesday, April 18th, I had the privlege to welcome the East High Girls Basketball Team to Albany as my guests for the day. East became the first Rochester City School District team to win a New York State Championship in Girls Basketball. The team was given a tour of the capital, and was in attendance for session. At the start of session, the New York State Legislature adopted a resolution honoring the achievements of the team this season, both on and off the court. Senate Passes Sex Abuse Prevention Bills

Measures Increase Penalties, Enhance Community Notification and Protection


The New York State Senate today passed a package of eight bills to prevent sexual predators from obtaining access to potential victims and help law enforcement and communities keep track of their whereabouts. The bills will help increase the amount of information available about convicted sex offenders and seeks to prevent them from obtaining access to vulnerable individuals.

Rochester, NY - Earlier this week, I had the privilege to welcome students from the Rochester Early College International High School to Albany. Included are: Jamal Wilson, Precious Harris, Jordin Rickett, Jordan Jablonski, Howard Sturgis, Deirdra Hokins, Mercy Kirui, Kenrick Brown, and Mark Durkin.
