In honor of Veterans' Day, I was pleased to join Time Warner Cable, the History Channel and Brighton High School in hosting Take a Vet to School Day. This nationwide program brings our nations veterans together with students of all ages to share their stories of how they defended our great nation.
I was pleased to join Providence Housing Development and members of our community at the ribbon cutting for the new apartment complex at the former Holy Rosary parish campus in the City of Rochester. This new affordable rental housing complex offers 35 apartments on the Holy Rosary campus and 25 newly constructed single-family homes in the Edgerton neighborhood. This truly is a great project for our community and the Edgerton neighborhood.

I had the opportunity to speak to Participation in Government classes at Edison Tech this morning. This was a great chance for me to talk about the role of government, and the importance of voter participation and getting involved in the community. The students came to class ready to participate and had some great questions. Many thanks to Mr. Amico for inviting to speak to his classes.
Senator Joe Robach is pleased to join Rochester-area New York State Legislators in co-sponsoring the Monroe County Community Forum with New York State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman. The community forum will take place on Tuesday, October 29 at 6:00 p.m. at the Eastman School of Music Hatch Recital Hall.
Attorney General Schneiderman will be discussing many important issues that impact our community, including: environmental protection, labor rights, civil rights, health care and consumer fraud and protection.
I was honored to join Assemblyman Bill Reilich and members of our community this afternoon at the dedication of the Brian K. Schramm Post Office Building in the Town of Greece. Brian was a lifelong Greece resident and graduate of Greece Olympia High School. Upon high school graduation, Brian enlisted in the United State Marine Corps to serve our great nation. Brian was tragically taken from us on October 15, 2004 while serving his second tour of duty in Iraq.
This post office building will remind us of the sacrifice Brian made for our country, and we are forever grateful for his dedication and service to our nation.
The St. John Fisher College Wegmans School of Nursing held a ribbon cutting for its new Simulation Center this afternoon. This new facility will allow SJFC nursing students to practice patient treatment on a simulated patient, while giving them hands-on experience in providing patient care. I was pleased to be able to help secure funding for this new facility, which will serve as yet another healthcare asset to the Rochester community.
Yesterday afternoon, I had the privilege of welcoming our veteran's home from the mission of 2013. With the 45 returning veterans on Sunday morning, Honor Flight Rochester has now sent 1,493 veterans to Washington, D.C. for an Honor Flight mission. Thanks to all who have volunteered their time or have helped Honor Flight over the years.
I had the pleasure of participating in this morning's opening ceremony for the Empire State Games for the Physically Challenged at SUNY Brockport. This great event provides physically challenged students with the opportunity to compete in athletic events while having fun doing it. The games run through this weekend, best of luck to all the athletes competing!
Yesterday afternoon, I joined Senators Gallivan, Marchione and Valesky, and Assemblyman Johns in hosting a public form on regulatory reform and the biotechnology industry in New York State. This public hearing was part of a 10-hearing series hosted by my colleagues of the Senate Majority Coalition to hear from industry-specific experts about the rules and regulations that are inhibiting job creation and economic growth in New York State.
On October 10, Senator Robach was a guest on News & Views to discuss Tax Relief in New York State and the benefits of the STAR Program. He also highlighted some key points of Unshackle Upstate's new Five Point Plan.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness month, and on Saturday morning I joined Alternatives for Battered Women at their Walk a Mile in Her Shoes event at Ontario Beach Park. This great event helps raise money for domestic violence victims assistance and educates people about the seriousness of domestic violence. Thanks to all who participated and gave to this event.
October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, so it was fitting that the Elizabeth Wende Breast Care facility held its ribbon cutting for its new Greece location this afternoon. I was honored to be able to help welcome this great healthcare center to the Town of Greece.
As a leader in breast imaging and breast cancer diagnosis, this new facility will provide greater access to experience professionals for those in need. Thank you for all you do and best of luck at your new location.
This weekend, I joined hundreds at the Walk to Defeat ALS at Ontario Beach Park. Every 90 minutes, someone is diagnosed with ALS, or Lou Gehrig's disease. This walk helped to raise money for the ALS Association in an effort to help find a cure for this horrible disease.
I was honored to join the Hilton-Parma community last night for the dedication of Fowler Field at the Parma Town Park. This field was dedicated to Steve Fowler for a lifetime of service and commitment to the Hilton-Parma community. It was a great ceremony for a great man, I'm pleased to have been able to be a part of it.

I was pleased to join students and facility from MCC today for their voter registration drive, a grassroots effort to get more students registered to vote on National Voter Registration Day. It was great meeting with so many interested students and discussing the importance of voting with them.
I'd like to thank the Gates Chili Chamber of Commerce for inviting me to give an update on State government this morning. I was joined by my colleague in the Senate, Mike Ranzenhofer, to discuss some of the exciting things we're doing in State government to grow business and create jobs in New York.
