Local Roads Matter! As Senate Transportation Chairman, I am proud to fight for increased funding in this year's State Budget to repair roads and bridges throughout Upstate New York. If there's a commitment for a billion dollars for the Tappan Zee Bridge, then there should be a commitment for a matching billion dollars for Upstate roads and bridges!
I joined Aaron Hilger and hard working men and women from across New York to call for increased funding and investment in our state's aging transportation infrastructure like our roads and bridges. This will create good paying jobs and improve the quality of life for all New Yorkers.
Today, I had the opportunity to co-sponsor Build a Better New York Day at the State Capitol, joining hard working men and women from across the state to call for an investment in our aging infrastructure.
Many thanks to the Veterans Outreach Center and Executive Director Todd Baxter for inviting me to give an overview of programs and initiatives that the State Legislature has passed or proposed to assist New York veterans. The Veterans Outreach Center is a great resource for area veterans and their families, thanks for all you do!
I had the opportunity to help welcome Pedro Martinez to the State Capitol as part of our Dominican Heritage Month celebration. Martinez will be inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame this summer after a long and dominate career with the Montreal Expos, Boston Red Sox and my New York Mets, among others. He's a three time Cy Young Award winner, 8 time All Star and member of the 2004 World Series Champion Boston Red Sox. It was great meeting this baseball legend, despite my dislike for the Red Sox!
I was proud to co-sponsor a package of bills that passed the State Senate today that will protect children and our communities from sexual predators. Parts of this legislation will provide municipalities with the ability to enact local laws that strengthen sex offender restrictions, close loopholes that allow sex offenders to reside close to pre-K and kindergarten programs and prevent sex offenders from living close to elementary or high schools.
Joined my colleagues in government at the annual Gates Chili Chamber of Commerce State of the Towns update by Gates Supervisor Mark Assini and Chili Supervisor David Dunning. Exciting things happening in these two great communities, I can't wait to see what 2015 has in store!
I joined my colleagues in the Senate Republican Majority yesterday to call to end the GEA, which has hurt our local schools since it implemented a few years ago. By eliminating the GEA, we can restore critical funding to our schools and ensure that every student receives an outstanding education. I am proud to continue to fight for Upstate equality in school funding, especially for Rochester and Monroe County.
I had fun reading "The Book With No Pictures" to students at Autumn Lane Elementary School this morning. Despite the snow and the cold, the students were excited listen to the book and share their favorite parts about it!

I enjoyed visiting with 7th grade students at Merton Williams Middle School in Hilton earlier today. The students came prepared with great questions and were ready to learn all about state government! Thanks to 7th grade student Charlotte Wright and teacher Mr. Sorenson for inviting me to visit their class.
On Friday night, I joined the underdog Washington Generals on a "one-day" contract in their attempt to upset the Harlem Globetrotters in front of a great crowd at the Blue Cross Area. Unfortunately we came up short in overtime, despite my 4 points and solid defense. My sincere thanks to the Globetrotters and the Generals for giving me the opportunity to showcase my basketball skills and fulfill a lifelong dream!
I was pleased to help Isaac Heating & Air Conditioning open its new headquarters on Holleder Parkway in the City of Rochester. This 70,000 square foot facility will better accommodate the Isaac employees, and allow them to better serve their customers. Congratulations to everyone at Isaac Heating & Air Conditioning, I wish you continued success!
I was pleased to join the Arc of Monroe as they announced exciting details to expand their successful Culinary Career Prep, which is part of its Job Path Program. This program trains individuals for a career in the food services industry by providing them with classroom and hands-on training. Way to go Arc of Monroe!
