Gerald Wolters Receives Purple Heart

On Thursday, February 24th, Senator Robach attended a ceremony where North Chili resident Gerald Wolters was presented a Purple Heart by United States Senator Charles Schumer. The event took place at the Blue Cross Area at the Rochester War Memorial. Wolters, a corporal in the Army and deployed to Korea, was seriously injured and then captured on December 1, 1950. He was held as a prisoner of war for more than 2 and a half years. He was released and discharged from the Army on October 12, 1953.

Verizon Foundation Announces Grant to Veterans Outreach Center

On Wednesday, February 23rd, the Verizon Foundation awarded Veterans Outreach Center a $10,000 grant to address the disparities in services for female veterans from the Finger Lakes Region who have recently return from tours-of-duty in Afghanistan and Iraq. Recently, Senator Robach had the opportunity to present Miss Evelyn Lashley with an American flag in honor of her receiving her U.S. citizenship. The ARC of Monroe County assists Evelyn, and she currently lives in a residence in Penfield.

Motorists Urged to Report Potholes

New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) Acting Commissioner Joan McDonald and New York State Thruway Executive Director Michael Fleischer are today reminding motorists to report potholes on the State's highway system by contacting 1-800-POTHOLE (1-800-768- 4653), the state roadway hotline for reporting these trouble-spots. The toll-free service is available across upstate New York and in Nassau and Suffolk counties. Potholes found on county, town, city and village streets, or private roadways should be reported to the appropriate owner.

Sahlen's Acquire Naming Rights to Downtown Rochester Stadium

On Thursday, February 10, Adirondack Sports Club Chairman Robert Clark announced at a press conference that the organization has secured a new naming rights sponsor for the multi-use stadium. Senator Robach attended, and provided remarks, at the press conference where the new name of the downtown stadium was announced. The home of the Rochester Rhinos, Western New York Flash, and Rochester Rattlers will be called Sahlen's Stadium. Pictured with Senator Robach are Joe Sahlen, President of Sahlen's Packing Company, Robert Clark, Darryl Porter, Assistant to the Mayor of the City of Rochester, and Pat Ercoli, President and COO of the Rochester Rhinos.

St. Ann's Community Announces Expansion

Recently, I had the opportunity to attend, and speak at, a ceremony to mark the ...expansion of St. Ann's Community. A new building on St. Ann’s Irondequoit campus will house a transitional care center with 72 beds and a palliative care center with 10 beds. A new building on St. Ann’s Cherry Ridge campus in Webster will house a long term care center with 60 beds and a transitional care center with 12 beds. The construction is expected to be completed and the buildings occupied by March 2012.

The August Group Celebrates 9 Years

On Thursday, February 3rd, The August Group celebrated its 9th Anniversary with an event at The Bagel Bin Cafe in Brighton. Senator Robach Speaks on Senate Floor Regarding Property Tax Cap

On Monday, January 31st, the New York State Senate, by a 43-17 vote, passed the Property Tax Cap. Senator Robach said the following on the Senate Floor, "Let me explain to my colleagues in New York City, we do not have hundreds of thousands of people moving into our districts. People are voting with their feet, and are saying it's because of high property tax."
