NYS Department of Labor Launches New Website for Job Seekers

To make it easier for job seekers to search for careers, the New York State Department of Labor has launched the New York State Job Bank web site: http://www.laborny.jobs/. There are 84,217 jobs posted on the new site and it continues to grow.

The site offers free services for both job seekers and businesses to speed hiring. Job seekers can post resumes and scan job openings, while businesses can post job openings and view resumes to find qualified candidates.

The new site offers these benefits for the job seeker:

* Helps them to search job listings by key word or location

* Alerts them to the latest job postings as often as they choose

* Allows them to post resumes

* Gives them the option to let employers view their resume

Rochester General Hospital Going More Energy-Efficient

On Thursday August 12th, Senator Robach made remarks during a press conference at Rochester General Hospital to announce an energy-efficient lighting project. The project, once complete, will save the hospital more than $80,000 annually in energy costs.

Senator Robach Takes Part in Puerto Rican Parade

On Saturday, July 31, Senator Robach took part in the Puerto Rican Parade in downtown Rochester. The parade started at Liberty Pole Way and ended at Frontier Field, the site of the Puerto Rican Festival, which ran from July 30th until August 1st. Cool Down with Cool Sweep!

Cool Sweep is the City’s annual public safety and customer service program to help city residents who have limited opportunities to find relief from summer heat. A Cool Sweep operation is triggered when the forecast calls for a day to reach 85 degrees.

Cool Sweep hours are normally from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The operation employs the use of a cooling spray from fire hydrants and extended hours at City pools and Durand Eastman Beach. The use of City spray parks and pools in certain city high schools are also available to the public.

When hot summer days creep in make sure to watch the news and check the newspaper for a possible Cool Sweep day announcement.

Cool Sweep Hydrant locations are:

2010 National Night Out Against Crime

On Tuesday, August 3rd, from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m., join Senator Robach at the 2010 National Night Out Against Crime at the Dewey Avenue Family Festival.This year’s event will feature carnival games courtesy of the Northwest YMCA, prizes and giveaways from Target and the NorthGate Neighbors, police and safety displays, free haircuts for children 10 and under from House of Hair, and a performance by the Greece Marching Band. Admission is FREE. There will be plenty of food, with $1 hot dogs and $1 cold drinks to benefit Two Doors Community Resource Center, plus Abbott's Frozen Custard and a candy bar & snack sale by Troop 195. Senator Robach Visits Chil Ave. Business Alliance Festival

On Saturday, July 24, Senator Robach joined the Chili Avenue Business Alliance for the Taste of Chili Ave Festival.The event featured numerous activities for children and youth, including a bouncy house, face painting and a basketball competition at Gardiner Recreation Center.In addition, there was live music from Noon until 6:00 p.m.

Bagel Bin Hosts Book Signing and Jewelry Show

Senator Robach joins the women of Katie Shirley's Closet. Stephanie Shirley, the mother of one of the five "Fairport Angels" who died in a car accident in 2009, started the business as a tribute to her daughter, Katie. The group donates procees from their jewelry sales to the Daystar Program for Medically Fragile Infants.

Senator Robach Helps Unveil Max Lill Drive

On Friday, July 23, Senator Robach helped dedicate Max Lill Drive, which will run from South Avenue to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Highland Park. James "Max" Lill died last month at age 64. Lill was instrumental in the construction of the nationally renowned Memorial. The memorial was opened to the public on September 8, 1996.

Senator Robach Welcomes Residents to Greece Summer Picnic for Seniors

On Thursday, July 22, Senator Robach welcomed residents and their guests to the Town of Greece Summer Picnic for Seniors. The annual event was held at Greece Town Hall. Senator Robach provided remarks to the crowd prior to lunch and thanked them for all that they do for the Town of Greece. Following lunch, seniors were treated to entertainment by Johnny Matt Band.

Senator Robach Spends Annual Reading Day at the Harley School

On Tuesday, July 20, Senator Robach took part in 'Annual Reading Day' at the Harley School. Horizons at Harley is a summer Student Enrichment Program that provides low-income Rochester children with a unique combination of academic, social, cultural, wellness, and recreational learning experiences that support their success in school and in life. One hundred twenty five children in grades K-8 attend Horizons each summer for six weeks at The Harley School.
