I was pleased to join my colleagues in government and representatives from Geva Theatre this morning to announce Geva's agreement with Woodbury Place. Formerly Merkel Donohue warehouse, this building will be re-purposed to house actors and actresses performing at Geva Theatre. Located just steps away from Geva Theatre in the Washington Square neighborhood, this project enhance the revitalization of Downtown Rochester.
Earlier this week, I had the opportunity to read to students at Brookside Elementary School in the Town of Greece as part of their summer reading program. This was a great way to help teach these students about the importance of literacy education!
The great Coupe De'Villes played at the Concerts by the Shore at Ontario Beach Park last night in front of a rockin' crowd. Many thanks to Joe Carrozzi and everyone with the Ontario Beach Park Program Committee for all of their hard work planning these concerts every week.
I joined my colleagues in State government to announce the newly created New York Power Electronics Manufacturing Consortium. This consortium will create thousands of jobs across New York, including 500 here in Rochester, and will focus on developing and manufacturing the next generation of materials used on semiconductors. This is a great example of public-private partnership that will benefit the entire community by creating new jobs and investing in our region.
I helped the Rochester Hispanic Youth Baseball League open the International Games at a ceremony over the weekend. This tournament gave teams from RHYBL and the Charlotte Youth Athletic Association the opportunity to compete against teams from Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic. RHYBL is more than just a youth baseball league, they teach their players about commitment and respect, on the baseball diamond and in the classroom. Way to go RHYBL!
I joined officials from St. John Fisher College to break ground on the new Integrated Science and Health Science building on campus. This new building will provide a state of the art learning facility for future nurses, pharmacists and other clinical professionals, giving them hands-on learning experience for life after college.
I joined members of the Rochester chapter of the National Black Leadership Commission on AIDS to help launch a campaign to raise awareness about the impact of Hepatitis C in our community. The NLBCA's campaign is seeking to improve testing and provide a better linkage to care for those who test positive. For more information visit www.nblca.org.
I recently joined George Traikos and the Traikos family for the opening of the Founders Cafe in the Academy Building in Downtown Rochester. Located at 13 South Fitzhugh Street, the Founders Cafe offers a variety of sandwiches, wraps, salads and coffee. Many thanks to George and the entire Traikos family for their investment in Downtown Rochester!
I had the pleasure of visiting with students at Quest Elementary School in Hilton and listening to their year-end Exhibition project presentations. What a great group of smart and eager students! I was pleased to join Governor Cuomo, Lt. Governor Duffy and my colleagues from the State Legislature today as the Governor signed legislation to combat growing heroin and opioid epidemic. As a member of the Joint Senate Task Force on Heroin and Opioid Addiction, I heard firsthand of the horrors these drugs can have on users and their families. This package of legislation is a step in the right direction to putting an end to this statewide problem.
I was pleased to help welcome members of the NHL Eastern Conference Champion New York Rangers to the State Capitol yesterday afternoon. I'm pictured here with players Dominic Moore, Martin St. Louis and Derek Stepan, President & General Manager Glen Sather and Assistant General Manager Jim Schoenfeld. As great as it was to meet them, I still bleed Sabres' blue and gold!
On Friday night, I joined students from Gates Chili High School and the Gates Chili community at their annual Relay for Life Event. This was a great event that brought so many people together to help raise money and awareness for cancer research. Many thanks to the students and facility that helped plan and coordinate this day.
We had a great turnout of employers and perspective employees for our annual Career Fair at Monroe Community College. Thanks to everyone at The August Group for helping to coordinate this event, and to Time Warner Cable, Angelo Planning Group, RochesterWorks!, and the Veterans Outreach Center for co-sponsoring this event.
I was pleased to join members of the Rochester Regional Library Council for their 48th annual luncheon recently. This is a great event that helps highlight the importance of libraries and honors the dedication of library staffs in our community.
Today, I joined Governor Cuomo, Lt. Governor Duffy and my partners in the New York State Legislature at RIT for an exciting announcement about the START-UP NY program. Datto, Inc., a technology leader and solutions innovator, is locating an office on the campus of RIT thanks to the innovative START-UP NY program. I am proud to have worked with Governor Cuomo on this program.

I joined my colleagues in government and the Greece community at the annual Town of Greece Memorial Day parade and ceremony. This is a great tradition that is attended by so many local veterans, organizations and residents. Thanks to all who participated in the parade and to everyone who came to the ceremony afterwards to honor all those who have died for our country.
