Charter School Advocacy Day

Rochester Academy Charter School administrators, parents, and students visited Albany on Tuesday, February 5th for Charter School Advocacy Day. RACS met with New York State congressmen and women to celebrate the successes of New York State Charter Schools, and specifically Rochester Academy Charter School. Senator Joe Robach also took some time out of his day to speak with Rochester Academy. Some key points from Charter School Advocacy Day include:

• 75,000 students are enrolled in 209 New York State Charter Schools

• More than 52,900 students are on waiting lists for New York State Charter Schools

• 84% of Charter Schools statewide are exceeding the average Math proficiency of their local district

Rochester Community Coalition Meeting

This morning, I had the privilege to attend a meeting where the Community Coalition, a group of leaders representing business, local government, education, labor, and nonprofits convened by the Rochester Business Alliance, delivered the agenda to the local state legislature delegation at a meeting this morning at Rochester Business Alliance headquarters.

Local Student Athletes Sign National Letters of Intent

On Wednesday afternoon, Changing the Community (CTC) held a ceremony to honor six local high school football players, who were a part of the organization's football camp, as they signed their letters of intent to play college football. The students honored were: Alex Officer of Eastridge High School who is heading to University of Pittsburgh; Chauncey Scissum of Rush-Henrietta High School heading to Syracuse University; Cullen Casey of McQuaid Jesuit High School heading to Old Dominion University; Qwaheem Marshall who played for Wilson Magnet and is heading to Gannon; Rod Stevens of Webster Thomas High School who is heading to Grambling; and Dan Leonard of Bath who is heading to West Liberty.

Senator Robach's Comments on Utility Tax

On Tuesday afternoon, February 5th, New York State Senator Joe Robach discussed his thoughts on the state's utility tax, which had been set to expire in March, 2014. Under Governor Cuomo's 2013-2014 Executive Budget plan, the tax would be increased to 2019.

Bryant & Stratton Opens New Greece Office

On Thursday night, January 31st, Senator Robach had the privilege to speak at, and help cut the ribbon at, the grand opening of the new Greece campus for Bryant & Stratton College. Electronics Recycling Event a Success

On Saturday, I was joined by Scout Troop #94 of Gates and employees from Sunnking Electronics Recycling, as we took part in an electronics recycling event at the Monroe County Ecopark. I would like to personally thank both Cindy Jessop of Sunnking Electronics Recycling and Chris Mueller of Time Warner Cable for making this event possible. During the event, which ran from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m., we collected several thousand pounds of electronics from televisions, to old computers.
