Elizabeth Wende Breast Care Ribbon Cutting

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, so it was fitting that the Elizabeth Wende Breast Care facility held its ribbon cutting for its new Greece location this afternoon. I was honored to be able to help welcome this great healthcare center to the Town of Greece.

As a leader in breast imaging and breast cancer diagnosis, this new facility will provide greater access to experience professionals for those in need. Thank you for all you do and best of luck at your new location.

Walk to Defeat ALS

This weekend, I joined hundreds at the Walk to Defeat ALS at Ontario Beach Park. Every 90 minutes, someone is diagnosed with ALS, or Lou Gehrig's disease. This walk helped to raise money for the ALS Association in an effort to help find a cure for this horrible disease.

Fowler Field Dedication Ceremony

I was honored to join the Hilton-Parma community last night for the dedication of Fowler Field at the Parma Town Park. This field was dedicated to Steve Fowler for a lifetime of service and commitment to the Hilton-Parma community. It was a great ceremony for a great man, I'm pleased to have been able to be a part of it.

6th Annual Women's Wellness Fair

Senator Joe Robach pleased to announce that his 6th annual Women’s Wellness Fair is scheduled for Saturday, September 28, 2013 from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. at the Mall at Greece Ridge Center. Please use Entrance #9, located between Marshalls and the Food Court entrance, when arriving.

The Women’s Wellness Fair will once again feature free blood pressure and cholesterol checks, chiropractic information, financial information, childcare information, fitness demonstrations and much more!

MCC Voter Registration Drive

I was pleased to join students and facility from MCC today for their voter registration drive, a grassroots effort to get more students registered to vote on National Voter Registration Day. It was great meeting with so many interested students and discussing the importance of voting with them.

Volunteers of America Children's Dental Center Ribbon Cutting

I was pleased to help cut the ribbon at the new Children's Dental Center at the Volunteers of America this morning. The new dental center will provide comprehensive dental care to children from low-income families who otherwise might not be able to get proper dental care. This project is a one of a kind partnership between the VOA and Rochester General Hospital. Many thanks to all who helped make this project possible.

Arc of Monroe Enrichment Campus Ribbon Cutting

The Arc of Monroe County celebrated the grand opening of the James V.C. and Anita Lambert Enrichment Campus this morning. The new 24,000+ square foot facility is located at 2657 West Henrietta Road and was designed around the needs of the program's current and future participants. This project wouldn't have been possible without the gracious lead donation from Anita Lambert and all of the other generous donors.

The Arc of Monroe has provided services for with developmental disabilities for more than 50 years. We are so fortunate to have an organization like the Arc in our community.

Hispanic Heritage Month Kickoff Event

Yesterday, I joined Rochester Mayor Tom Richards and my colleagues from City government to officially kick off Hispanic Heritage Month in the City of Rochester. Students from Wilson Foundation unveiled the 23 National flags of Latin America, which will hang from the mezzanine overlooking the City Hall Atrium, where they will remain during Hispanic Heritage Month.

Downtown Rochester Academy Building Ribbon Cutting

Yesterday afternoon, I joined Mayor Tom Richards, County Executive Maggie Brooks and other local officials at the ribbon cutting of the newly renovated Academy Building. Originally built in 1873, the Academy Building was once home to the City's first school. Renovated by Traikos Real Estate Group, this historic Downtown Rochester building will now be home to residential apartments and commercial space.

I was pleased to be able to support this project through Round 2 of the Restore New York Program.

High Falls Transformation Press Conference

This morning I joined Mayor Tom Richards to announce an exciting new project for the High Falls area in Downtown Rochester. I'm pleased to be able to secure state funding to help this new project that will upgrade the existing trail along the Genesee River and High Falls and help pay for new lighting of the falls.

We're so fortunate to have an attraction like High Falls in our community, this project will allow more people to experience all it has to offer.

Windstream Ribbon Cutting

I was honored to join my colleagues in government at the ribbon cutting for the new Windstream building at the former Midtown Plaza site in Downtown Rochester. About 335 Windstream employees will be working out of this building on a daily basis, bringing more people and jobs to Downtown Rochester.

Greece Central School District Summer Commencement Ceremony

Last night, the Greece Central School District held its summer commencement ceremony at the Greece Athena Performing Arts Center. 18 students from all four Greece High Schools received their High School Diploma, along with 88 graduates receiving their Adult Literacy GED Diploma.

Enrico Fermi School 17 Ribbon Cutting

The Rochester City School District held a ribbon cutting today for Enrico Fermi School 17 on Orchard Street. School 17 is an extended learning time school, adding 300 hour to the school year for each student in grades Pre-K through 8th. This school will provide City School students with all of the tools needed to be successful in the classroom.

The Greece Chamber of Commerce held its 3rd annual Taste of the Town Sunday afternoon at the Greece Community & Senior Center. This family-friendly event brings local restaurants together to promote their business and give taste-sized samples to attendees. You'd be hard-pressed to leave hungry, I'm already looking forward to next year's event!

I was pleased to be invited to help recognize this year's 22 honorees. Each honoree has given their time and dedication volunteering in our community. It's people like these recipients that make the Town of Greece a great community.

BCCR Terri Scmitt Legislative Reception

Last night, I was pleased to join my colleagues in government at the Breast Cancer Coalition of Rochester's 10th annual Terri Schmitt Legislative Reception. This reception was highlighted by a beautiful tribute to Terri from her son, Tim Deckman.

Terri served as Co-Chair of the BCCR and was an unbelievable advocate for our community until losing her own battle with breast cancer in April 2002. While it's been 11 years since Terri's unfortunate passing, her legacy and vision lives on through the BCCR.

This free event celebrates young people in our community and encourages them to make our city a safer place to live. The Greece Historical Society celebrated the 25th anniversary of moving the Larkin-Beattie-Howe House from the corner of Latta Road and Long Pond Road to its current location at 595 Long Pond Road. I was honored to serve as an honorary host for this event.
