Ruby Shooz Closes Out 2012 Concerts by the Shore

On Wednesday night, I had the privilege to help close out the 2012 Concerts by the Shore season. A very large crowd was treated to a performance by Ruby Shooz! Thank you to Joe Carrozzi, Jean Carrozzi, and all of the volunteers on the Ontario Beach Park Program Committee for their commitment and hard work throughout the summer! This year's season featured NO rain outs, superb family entertainment and many good times! It was great to see so many familiar faces in the big crowd last night. Hope to see you all back next summer!

Back to School Reminder: No State Sales Tax on Clothing Purchases Up to $110

Believe it or not, it’s back-to-school time again! Preparing our kids for a new school year can be a fun and exciting time, but with so many families feeling an economic crunch these days, it can be a stressful time as well. That’s why I wanted to remind you of some good news that is sure to help your back-to-school budget. Shoppers will not pay state sales tax on clothing purchases up to $110. Clothing purchases can be a big part of a family budget, and I was pleased to support this tax cut to help hardworking New Yorkers keep more money in their pockets. Repealing the sales tax on clothing is projected to save a typical family of four nearly $200 a year.

New Playground For Students at School #36

Earlier this morning, I had the privilege to speak at a ribbon cutting ceremony for the new playground at School #36. The playground is just one of the improvements to the school since the end of the school year in June. Following the ceremony, students and their parents were welcome to tour the school and see the changes to the exterior and interior of the building. Best wishes to the all the students, faculty, and staff at School #36 for a successful school year!

Greece Central School District Summer Graduation

(Rochester, NY) - Last Thursday, I had the privilege to speak at the ceremony to honor Greece Central School Distirct graduates. Diplomas were given for students who completed the General Education Development (GED) program through adult literacy and the Bridges program and high school students. 83-year old Jerry Oransky received the New York State Operation Recognition award. Through this program, veterans can earn their high school diploma if they left school without graduating.

Last Thursday afternoon, I had the privilege to speak to, and meet with, graduates of the Town of Greece Citizens Police Academy. This was the 16th Annual Picnic to celebrate the accomplishments of residents and past graduates who have gone through this program. Thank you to all of you who help make our community safe.

Senator Robach, Business Leaders Call on Thruway Authority Not to Increase Tolls

- New York State Thruway Authority Mulling 45 Percent Toll Hike For Commercial Trucks –

 

Rochester, NY – This morning, New York State Senator Joe Robach (R-I-C, Monroe County), and John Batiste, President and CEO of Klein Steel Service, Inc. in Rochester, joined other local small business owners and business organizations to highlight the negative effects the proposed toll hikes would have for commercial trucks on the New York State Thruway.

 

The New York State Thruway Authority has proposed a 45 percent toll increase for commercial trucks on the Thruway. According to the Thruway Authority, this increase, if enacted, would be implemented by October.

On Friday, August 17th, I had the privilege to attend the grand opening ceremony for 101 Mobility, located at 1249 Ridgeway Avenue. 101 Mobility is a local provider of mobility and accessibility equipment. Their local staff of consultants and service personnel install and service hundreds of auto lifts, stair lifts, turning seats, modular ramps and platform lifts each year. Countdown to 95th PGA Championship

Earlier Thursday morning, I had the privilege to attend an event at the Greater Rochester International Airport to launch the official countdown to the 2013 PGA Championship. Next year's tournament will take place from August 5th through August 11th at Oak Hill Country Club in Pittsford. During today's event, the official countdown clock was unveiled, and the Wanamaker Trophy arrived in Rochester. The trophy, presented to the winner of the PGA Championship each year, will be at the airport for the next year. For more information on the PGA Championship, visit www.pgachampionship.com.

Empire State College Announces Agreement for New Brighton Campus

I was pleased to join Dean Franz, Assemblyman Joe Morelle, and others today to announce the agreed upon location of Empire State College in Brighton on property currently owned by the state, located on Westfall Road. Empire State College is an important part of SUNY, allowing adult-learners and people in the work force to have flexible curriculums in pursuit of their professional degrees.

Brooks Court Ground Breaking

Earlier this afternoon, I had the privilege to take part in a ground-breaking ceremony to kick off a $5.5 million redevelopment plan on Genesee Street in Rochester. Brooks Court will soon be the home of new single-family 1 1/2 - 2 story homes. These homes will have individual garages, front porches, and vinyl siding. They are estimated to be priced between $150,000 and $180,000. The homes are scheduled to be ready for occupancy in late fall. Vibe Lounge Opens in Rochester

On Friday, August 17th, I had the privilege to take part in the grand opening ceremony of Vibe Lounge. Vibe is located at Willage Gate and offers jazz trios, funk/blues and neo-souls bands. The lounge has 4,200 square foot of space indoors and features courtyard seating outside.

On Saturday afternoon, I had the privilege to speak at, and present at, the Town of Greece volunteer award ceremony. This event is put on annually by the Greece Community Partners organization to recognize residents throughout the community for their service and dedication. College at Brockport Breaks Ground on Liberal Arts Building

On Tuesday, August 21st, I had the privilege to speak at, and help break ground at, a ceremony to mark the start of construction on a new liberal arts building at The College at Brockport. The new building will be over 60,000 square feet and located to the east of Drake Memorial Library. It is scheduled to open in the fall of 2014, with a projected cost of over $29 million. It is the first new academic building on the campus in 40 years and will house the departments of English, history, modern languages and cultures, philosophy, and women and gender studies. Funding for the project is coming from the SUNY educational facilities five year capital plan, which I am proud to support.

Recently, I had the opportunity to take a tour and see the renovation project for Marketview Heights. Marketview Heights Association (MHA) is a not-for-profit community service organization committed to improving the quality of life within northeast Rochester through underscoring the need for decent housing that is affordable to low and moderate income people. MHA is a HUD approved counseling agency providing Home buyer Counseling and Education for first time home buyers, Home ownership Counseling and Education, and Foreclosure Prevention Services. Rochester Red Wings Host Strike Out Bullying Night

On Sunday night, August 19th, the Rochester Red Wings hosted 'Strike Out Bullying' night as the team played host to the Empire State Yankees. Prior to the game, I had the privilege to join Citizens Against Teen Suicide to provide remarks and to present a bat, autographed by the Red Wings team, to Karen Klein of Greece, who was the victim of bullying on a school bus earlier this summer. The night also featured a guest appearance by former New York Yankees pitcher Tommy John and motivational speaker Bob Holmes.

Delivering School Supplies to the Greece Ecumenical Clothes Closet

This week, I stopped by the Greece Ecumenical Clothes Closet, located at 500 Maiden Lane, to deliver school supplies that I collected over the past month. Thank you to all of those who supported my Back to School Backpacks and Supplies Drive. Once again this year, I collected backpacks, pens, pencils, notebooks, folders, and other necessary school supplies to donate to the clothes closet. Here I am pictured with Pat Licati, June Mangan, and Joan Wakefield. All are volunteers at the clothes closet.
