Regus Group Opens Downtown Office

Recently, I had the privilege to speak at, and help cut the ribbon at, the grand opening ceremony for Regus Group. The Regus Business Center is designed for small business owners that want a presence downtown. It is 10,000 square feet which includes conferences rooms, a kitchen, and wi-fi access. Regus also provides administrative services. Regus has over 1,000 locations around the world.

Two Libraries Presented NYS Resolutions

Yesterday, I had the privilege to recognize Autumn Lane Elementary School library and Brighton Memorial Library with New York State Resolutions. Both libraries were presented awards during the Rochester Regional Library Council's 46th Annual Membership Meeting. Senate Passes Bill Waiving 24 Hour Waiting Period For Military Members to Get Marrie

    The New York State Senate today passed a bill (S.490), sponsored by Senator Joe Robach, that waives the 24-hour waiting period for military members to get married after receiving a marriage license. This would apply to military members who are scheduled for deployment in less than 30 days. “Given the sacrifice, coupled with the unique circumstances of active veterans, we feel this bill will better accommodate the requests of some of our brave men and women in the military with their personal and family lives,” said Senator Robach. “This is one small favor we can do to accommodate their time frame.”

Senate Passes New Jobs-NY Job Creation Plan

On Wednesday, May 30th, The New York State Senate passed the 2012 NEW JOBS-NY Job Creation Plan.  The Senate’s comprehensive plan will help create thousands of new private sector jobs by delivering tax relief to small businesses and manufacturers, reducing energy costs, and enacting major fiscal reforms to make New York State more economically competitive.

Lend Us Your Story Video Contest Winners Announced

Recently, I had the privilege to attend, and speak at, the award ceremony for the "Lend Us Your Story Video Contest". This contest was for children under the age of 17, and required them to shoot short videos about why the Rochester Public Library is important to them. The grand prize winner received a Kindle Fire, and the second and third prize winners received a Kindle. Great work by all the kids involved!

School of the Arts Students Visit Albany

Recently, Participation in Government students from Rochester's School of the Arts visited Senator Robach in Albany for a day. The students received tours of the state Capitol, learned about the day-to-day responsibilities of the state government, and met with state lawmakers.

Christopher's Place Playground Opens

(Rochester, NY) - Recently, I had the privilege to attend the ribbon cutting ceremony for Christopher's Place Playground. It is located adjacent to Cameron Community Miinistries’ facilities at 48 Cameron St. The playground includes a bank of four swings, a teeter totter, extensive climbing area with slides and a sports court with portable basketball hoop as well as space for jump roping, games and other neighborhood events. The project also includes a raised bed planter so that children can learn about vegetable gardening. The playground was constructed to enhance programs for after school youth enrolled at Cameron Community Ministries, but it will be open at designated times for neighborhood use.

Fedele Family Honored as Veterans' Hall of Fame Award Recipients

On Wednesday, May 23rd, I had the privilege to honor the Fedele family as recipients of the 2012 New York State Veterans Hall of Fame. It was a privilege to nominate this well-deserving family for their courage, bravery, and sacrifice for our Country. Thank you to the Fedele family and to all of those who have serve, and continue to serve for our Country.

The Fedele family, like millions of other American families, responded to their country’s needs during World War II. Except that, unlike every other family, the Fedeles sent eight brothers off to war. This was the record for the most men from one family to serve in a foreign war at the same time.

2012 Women of Distinction Awards

On Tuesday night, May 15th, I had the privilege to present Hilda Rosario Escher, president and CEO of Ibero American Action League, with a New York State Women of Distinction Award. As President and CEO, she is the voice of the Rochester Hispanic Community. Hilda focuses her efforts on strategic planning, developing leaders in her organization and being a change agent leading innovation. Since 1968 Ibero-American Action League has taken a leadership role in nurturing partnerships, services, and advocacy among the community to meet the needs of the Latinos in the Rochester area. Hilda has an extensive background in Human Services including: developmental disabilities, foster care, adoption, day care and employment and training services.
