DNA Databank Expands

All-Crimes DNA Law a Powerful Crimefighting Tool To Help Protect New Yorkers

 

The databank expansion, which has been agreed to by Governor Andrew Cuomo and the State Assembly, will help close thousands of unsolved cases, bring justice to crime victims, and help prevent dangerous criminals from committing additional crimes.

 

The Senate Republican Majority has led the effort to expand the databank, garnering strong public backing for the proposal through a series of on-line petitions and public events. Several thousand citizens from communities across the state signed on in support of the measure.

120 BUSINESSES JOIN NY YOUTH WORKS PROGRAM, CREATING JOBS FOR 2,900 AT-RISK YOUTH

Governor Encourages New York Employers to Take Advantage of Program and Urges Unemployed Youth to Get Involved

 

 

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today announced that more than 120 businesses across the state have joined the New York Youth Works Program, creating 2,900 full and part-time job openings for young, at-risk New Yorkers.

 

Mylan Denerstein, Counsel to the Governor, and Alphonso David, Deputy Secretary for Civil Rights, today joined members of the Legislature and representatives from participating businesses to encourage additional youth and companies to take advantage of the program.

Agreement Reached on Expansion of DNA Databank

New Law Expands Access to DNA Testing and Discovery for Defendants

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo, Senate Majority Leader Dean Skelos, and Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver today announced an historic agreement that will make New York State the first “all crimes DNA state in the nation, by requiring DNA samples be collected from anyone convicted of a felony or penal law misdemeanor. In addition, the bill also significantly expands defendants' access to DNA testing and comparison both before and after conviction in appropriate circumstances, as well as to discovery after conviction to demonstrate their innocence.

Governor Cuomo introduced the DNA Databank legislation as a centerpiece of his 2012 legislative agenda.

Elderly Victims Across New York Lost More Than $441K To Scammers Pretending To Be Family Members In Need

 

Schneiderman: It’s Despicable That Scammers Are Preying On Vulnerability & Generosity Of Seniors

 

NEW YORK - As part of National Consumer Protection Week, Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman issued a warning to New Yorkers today after regional offices throughout the state have reported a rise in so-called "grandparent scams," where perpetrators impersonate relatives in need, and then dupe unsuspecting seniors into sending them money. Victims of these phone scams have lost more than $441,000 over the last several months.

Boys and Girls Club Pizza Throwdown

Earlier this morning, I had the privilege to be a guest judge at the Boys and Girls Clubs Pizza Throwdown. The event was held at UNO Chicago Grill in Henrietta. The competition featured youth from the Boys and Girls Clubs of Rochester against UNO's own pizza chefs to see who makes the best deep dish pizza.

GOVERNOR CUOMO UNVEILS PLANS TO MODERNIZE AND REBUILD I-390 INTERCHANGE IN ROCHESTER

$26 Million Included in Executive Budget for First Phases of Project

 

 

 

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today unveiled new plans to modernize and rebuild the I-390 Interchange in Rochester. The project will create a gateway to the University of Rochester, enabling campus expansion and job growth. The Governor included $26 million in his 2012-2013 Executive Budget to support the first two phases of the project.

 

The project will improve accessibility to the University of Rochester, Monroe Community College and Rochester Institute of Technology campuses, leading to thousands of new jobs in the local economy generated by university growth. Approximately 630 construction jobs will also be created.
