New York State Senate Passes Bill To Protect Kodak Retiree Health Care

 

Legislation sponsored by Senator Robach would provide safety net

 in the event retiree health benefits are eliminated

 

Rochester, NY - Eastman Kodak’s filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection earlier this year has prompted much uncertainty for employees and retirees of the company. If Kodak eliminates health benefits for retirees, those who have not yet reached the age of 65 (when they qualify for Medicare) will be left uninsured.

I Remember Mama Luncheon

On Saturday, I had the privilege to attend, and speak at, the Volunteers of America 22nd Annual I Remember Mama luncheon. With Mother's Day coming up, this event is designed to honor senior women who would be alone on Mother's Day. In addition to lunch, visitors are treated to speakers, gifts, and entertainment. Joining me was Town of Greece Police Chief Todd Baxter.

Senate Passes Sex Abuse Prevention Bills

Measures Increase Penalties, Enhance Community Notification and Protection

 

The New York State Senate today passed a package of eight bills to prevent sexual predators from obtaining access to potential victims and help law enforcement and communities keep track of their whereabouts. The bills will help increase the amount of information available about convicted sex offenders and seeks to prevent them from obtaining access to vulnerable individuals.

Senate Celebrates West Point Day

Rochester, NY - On Thursday, April 26th, the New York State Senate celebrated West Point Day. This annual celebration is held to honor all of those brave men and women who have served, and continue to serve our Country, both at home, and overseas. Thank you to all of our servicemen and women for their dedication and courage. Here I am pictured with retired Lieutenant Colonel Bill Larkin, who served 23 years on active duty in the United States Army, and is now my colleague in the Senate.

Land Trusts Grants

Earlier this week, I had the privilege to speak at a press conference regarding grants totalling $1.4 million being awarded to 53 nonprofit lan trusts across the state. 10 grants totalling over $230,000 were awarded in the Western New York/Finger Lakes/Southern Tier category. This included the Genesee Land Trust, Genesee Valley Conservancy, and The Central and Western New York Chapter of The Nature Conservancy.

This event was a day long event which allowed for survivors of all forms of child abuse, domestic violence and sexual assault to come together, heal together, share their stories through any and all means of creativity, and break the silence that surrounds these crimes.

East High School Girls Basketball Team Honored In Albany

On Wednesday, April 18th, I had the privlege to welcome the East High Girls Basketball Team to Albany as my guests for the day. East became the first Rochester City School District team to win a New York State Championship in Girls Basketball. The team was given a tour of the capital, and was in attendance for session. At the start of session, the New York State Legislature adopted a resolution honoring the achievements of the team this season, both on and off the court.
