On Thursday, January 12th, I had the privilege to attend the Greece Chamber of Commerce Networking Luncheon, held at Ridgemont Country Club. Here I am photographed with United States Congresswoman Kathy Hochul, who was the guest speaker for Thursday's luncheon. It was great to speak with so many business owners in our community!

We dicussed our economy and the challenges facing it today, how the New York State Senate passes legislation, and how students can be involved in their community and the government proccess so that their voices are heard. Coalition to Prevent Lead Poisoning Receives Funding to Support Testing

The Coalition to Prevent Lead Poisoning (CPLP) recently announced a $21,000 grant from the Monroe Plan for Medical Care is supporting bi-monthly lead testing events at the Jordan Health Link, 273 Upper Falls Blvd.

Senate Confirms Gil Quiniones as President/CEO of NYPA

On Monday, January 9th, the New York State Senate unanimously confirmed Gil Quiniones as President and CEO of the New York Power Authority.

Quiniones previously served as acting president and CEO of the New York Power Authority, the nation's largest state electric utility. He was the chief operating officer since June 2008.

Rochester Arc & Flame Opens

On Friday night, January 6th, I had the privilege to attend the grand opening of the Rochester Arc and Flame Center. The Rochester Arc & Flame Center (RocAFC) is a 5,000 square-foot training facility designed specifically for welding, glass working and blacksmithing. The mission of RocAFC is to foster exciting and innovative classes for people of all skill levels. Rochester Arc & Flame Center is the only training facility in upstate New York to offer professional and recreational classes in welding, glass working and blacksmithing. Senate Passes Iran Divestment Legislation

The New York State Senate yesterday gave final legislative passage to the Iran Divestment Act, sponsored by Senate Majority Leader Dean Skelos. The bill would prohibit companies that provide goods, services or credit worth $20 million or more to Iran's energy industry from entering into or renewing state and local government contracts.

The Iran Divestment Act of 2012 (S5917A) was modeled after similar legislation in California and conceived with help from the Jewish Community Relations Council of New York.

Skylark Opens in Downtown Rochester

On Thursday, December 22nd, Senator Robach had the privilege to speak at the ribbon-cutting ceremony for The Skylark Lounge. Skylark is located at 40 S. Union Street in downtown Rochester. Greece Scout Completing Work Towards Citizenship Badge

Earlier this week, Senator Robach met with Sean Hannon of Greece. Sean is a boy scout in Troop 48 (Greece Baptist Church). He is currently working on his Citizenship in the Community merit badge. We discussed tourism in our area and what can draw more people to Rochester. Best wishes to Sean as he continues through scouts.

Earthlink Cuts Ribbon on New Location

On Tuesday, December 20th, Senator Robach had the privilege to take part in the ribbon-cutting ceremony at Earthlink's new location at Alexander Park, representing a $12 million investment over the next three years and the retention of nearly 450 local jobs. Alexander Park is just part of EarthLink’s overall investment and retention of jobs in the Western New York region, which includes the recent acquisitions of One Communications, LogicalSolutions, xDefenders and the closing today of EarthLink’s acquisition of Synergy Global’s IT Solutions Center. The company also announced that it will lease an additional 6,000 square feet at Alexander Park, the former Genesee Hospital site, from owner Buckingham Properties, increasing EarthLink’s total occupancy to more than 71,000 square feet.

Christmas Tree Recycling Programs in Monroe County

Monroe County Executive Maggie Brooks announced that beginning right after Christmas, residents can once again recycle their Christmas trees, free of charge, at several locations across the County. Most drop-off locations and scheduled pick-ups will accept trees through the end of January 2012.

This season, the County’s new ecopark located at 10 Avion Drive in the Town of Chili, will also accept Christmas trees, unwanted holiday lights and gift packaging during its operating hours. For hours and other recycling alternatives, visit www.monroecounty.gov/ecopark or call 753-7600 (Option #3).

WDKX Brings Christmas Downtown

On Saturday, December 17th, Senator Robach joined WDKX 103.9 FM at the Monroe County Office Building for their annual Christmas event, "WDKX Brings Christmas Downtown". Children and families had their pictures taken with Santa Claus. Coats, mittens, and other winter articles of clothing were also given out to families. WDKX broadcasted live from 10 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.

Passero Associates Breaks Ground on New Offices

On Tuesday, December 13th, Senator Robach had the privilege to speak at and take part in a ground-breaking ceremony at Passero Associates. Passero Associates, an architectural and engineering firm with more than 100 employees, will relocate their corporate headquarters from Liberty Pole Way to the basement and bottom two floors of the four-story building at the former Josh Lofton School, 242 W. Main St, in downtown’s Cascade District. The renovation will also include about 4,000 square feet of retail space along with 20 loft apartments.
