Back to School Drive a Success!

Earlier this week, Senator Robach was joined by Town of Greece Councilman Andrew Conlon, and Jerry and Geri Spino to bring all of the donated school supplies and backpacks to the Greece Ecumenical Clothes Closet. Thank you to everyone who made this drive such a success. We collected dozens of backpacks and hundreds of notebooks, folders, pens, and pencils. This drive couldn't have been a success without your support. Best wishes to all the kids on a great 2011-2012 school year!

Rochester Hurricanes Youth Football Pizza Party

Senator Robach recently had an opportunity to visit with coaches and players from Rochester Hurricanes Youth Football during a pizza party at School #50. Weider's Pro Paint and Hardware Opens in Brighton

On Thursday, August 11th, Senator Robach spoke at, and attended, a board cutting ceremony to mark the opening of Weider's Pro Pain and Hardware in Brighton. The new store is located at the corner of Rhinecliff and Monroe Avenue, at the former Lilac Restaurant. This is the second location for Weider's, which also has a store in Honeoye Falls.

Caring and Sharing Child Care Center Opens

Senator Robach recently had the privilege to speak to, and visit with, kids at the grand opening of the Caring and Sharing Junior Academy on Webster Avenue in Rochester. Caring and Sharing has provided child care in Rochester for 12 years and recently expanded to include the junior academy. The center offers an experimental educational enrichment program to youth who are too old for traditional child care services.

Horizons Summer Graduation and Closing Ceremonies

2011 National Night Out Against Crime

Here are a list of some of the events taking place on Tuesday, August 2nd, 2011 to celebrate National Night Out Against Crime.

5:00-8:00 p.m.

2011 National Night Out Against Crime at the Dewey Avenue Family Festival, Parking lots behind the Barnard Fire Department and Bethany Presbyterian Church at 3000 Dewey Avenue (near Stone Road). Food, music, and fun for families!

5:00-8:00 p.m.

17th Annual Southwest Sector 4 National Night Out Against Crime Motorcade. The motorcade starts at Wilson High School and contiues to Genesee Valley Park / Canalside Shelter.

Hair Galleria Opens on Hudson Avenue

On Thursday, July 28th, Senator Robach had the privilege to attend, and speak at, a ribbon cutting ceremony at Hair Galleria, located on Hudson Avenue. Hair Galleria is an expansion of Hair Casa Inc., a seven-year-old family business. It will employ 15 to 25 full- and part-time. Best wishes to everyone at Hair Galleria!

Camp NorthPoint Attempts World Record

Recently, Senator Robach had the opportunity to visit with campers at YMCA Camp NorthPoint in Greece as they attempted to set a world record. On Thursday, July 21st, YMCA campers all across the country roasted marshmallows for 15 seconds in an attempt to set the world record for most people roasting marshmallows at the same time. 221 people were at Camp NorthPoint as a part of this feat. Town of Greece Seniors Summer Picnic

On Thursday, July 21st, Senator Robach had the opportunity to visit with seniors at the Town of Greece Community and Senior Center during the 2011 Town of Greece Seniors Summer Picnic. Although, the extremely hot weather moved this year's picnic inside, it was great visit with so many of our residents! Touring Unity Hospital's Expansion Project

Recently, Senator Robach was given a tour of the Unity Health System Modernization and Expansion Project in Greece. Construction begin last year, and is expected to be complete in 2014. Here are more details regarding this project:

The expansion of the Hospital includes the construction of a fourth floor and will add 35 acute care medical/surgical beds.  The construction also gives Unity the option of opening 50 additional beds if needed in the future. The plan was approved by the New York State Department of Health Project Review Committee last month and by the New York State Department of Health State Hospital Review and Planning Council last week.

CrimeStoppers 'Sign Up, Step Up'

Breaking Ground on Paul Wolk Common Apartments

On Friday, July 15th, I had the opportunity to speak at, and participate in, a ground breaking ceremony at the future site of the Paul Wolk Common Apartments on State Street in Rochester. The new Wolk Commons is an $8.5 million project that will create 45 mixed-use apartments, most of them for people with mental disabilities. Paul Wolk Commons is expected to open in Spring 2012.

Epilepsy Foundation Honors Scholarship Award Winner

On Wednesday July 13, Senator Robach presented a certificate to Greece student Shaina Sarkis, who received the Stephen A. Segar Scholarship. The award was presented during the Epilepsy Foundation luncheon at Country Club of Rochester. Congratulations to all of this year's award winners and all the best on your future endeavors!

Senator Robach Announces 'Back to School Backpacks and Supplies' Drive

I hope you are enjoying all that summer has to offer in our community. Because of the tremendous response from the community to my “Coats for Kids Clothes Drive” last December,  I am proud to announce my “Back to School Backpacks and Supplies Drive”. From now until August 5th, I will be collecting backpacks and school supplies and will be donating them to the Greece Ecumenical Clothes Closet, who is in “great need” for these items.

 

Supplies needed are:

Backpacks
Pens – Blue and Black
Pencils – Standard and Colored
Rulers and protractors
Lined paper and pads, composition paper
Folders
Post-It-Notes
Basic calculators
Glue sticks
Highlighters

Monroe Litho Honored as Green Business

Rochester printing company Monroe Litho is being recognized by the New York State Pollution Prevention Institute for leadership in sustainability with the printing industry.

 

The company, located in downtown Rochester, earned the Pollution Prevention Achievement Award for its environmental initiatives with High Tech Rochester, the local Regional Technology Development Center. The collaboration helped reduce process waste by 100 percent and water usage by 5.9 percent, decrease emissions by 29 percent, and reduce fuel used in the transportation of paper by 31 percent.
